311 Earthquakes

Caption: At 11:46 on March 11, 2011, a strong earthquake

occurred in the Pacific Ocean in northeastern Japan. The
magnitude of the moment of the earthquake reached M9.0. The
fourth largest earthquake in history. The epicenter was located
in the Pacific Ocean to the east of Miyagi Prefecture, Japan,
about 130km from Sendai, and the focal depth was 20
kilometers. The huge tsunami triggered by the earthquake
caused devastating damage to Iwate, Miyagi, and Fukushima
prefectures in northeastern Japan, and triggered a nuclear leak at
the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant.
The earthquakes in North-eastern
Japan
Caption: Most earthquakes in Japan occurred in northeastern
Japan. And many earthquakes occurred on the sea in Japan. The
Japanese archipelago is located at the junction of the
Asia-Europe plate and the Pacific plate. According to the
geological plate theory, the Pacific plate is relatively thin, with a
relatively high density and a relatively low position. When the
Pacific plate moves horizontally westward, it subducts beneath
the adjacent Eurasian plate. Therefore, when the Eurasian plate
collides and squeezes with the Pacific plate, the rock layers at
the junction of the two plates will undergo deformation, fracture
and other movements, resulting in volcanic eruptions and
earthquakes.
The earthquakes in Japan
Caption: Recently, a research institute at the Massachusetts
Institute of Technology said that according to their sample
survey of more than 300 geological structural points in Japan in
the past 10 years, they found that these places are unstable in the
earth's crust and frequent earthquakes, in addition to being
related to the global active period. There is an another human
factor! It turned out that the large amount of wastewater that was
transferred from industrial production in Japan was injected into
the crust of nearly 10,000 meters deep by fracturing deep hole
drilling technology, and the injected water even included some
nuclear waste water. When these atmospheric liquids are
injected into the depth of the formation through the borehole,
they are subjected to the state of high pressure steam which is
subjected to heat and pressure. Not only did it corrode the
already fragile plates, but it also exerted pressure on the earth's
crust, which led to frequent earthquakes. There are thousands of
earthquakes in Japan every year, and there are four times a day
when the magnitude is above level 3.
