Dear University Village,

As your customer, I encourage you to implement more recycling bins throughout the complex.
There is currently only one area in the apartment complex that contains recycling bins, which is
right next to the main office. Considering this is a large complex, I believe the lack of
accessibility to recycling bins makes it harder for residents to recycle.

I believe if there were multiple recycling bins throughout the complex then residents would start
recycling more often, considering they wouldn’t have to walk all the way to the main office with
their recyclables. There is also a lack of dumpsters throughout the complex. Due to this, I have
seen residents that live next to the office throwing their trash away in the recycling bins because
they did not want to walk all the way to the nearest dumpster. The importance of providing
residents easy accessibility to recycling is vital for our environment. The more recyclable trash
that is thrown away, instead of recycled, causes much more waste to be sent to landfills and
incinerators. The trash that sits in these landfills releases harmful chemicals and greenhouse
gasses into the air, therefore less trash leads to less air pollution. Using recycled materials also
helps reduce the need for raw materials, therefore reducing the amount of deforestation.
Reducing deforestation decreases the amount of habitat destruction and helps preserve the
rainforests. Recycling also requires much less energy than making products from raw materials.

With the current state of the environment, if we do not recycle there will be many negative
impacts. Landfills will eventually become too overcrowded and filled to maximum capacity.
Landfills of this magnitude will emit huge levels of pollutants into the air. In the long run,
pollution will begin to increase around the world at rapid levels whether it is air, water, or land
pollution. This can then damage our atmosphere if too much CO2 is emitted. Trees will be cut
down faster than they can grow, along with animal habitats. On top of this, without reducing the
amount of energy that is used, the non-renewable sources will eventually become unavailable.
Recycling helps our environment in more ways than people realize, and I hope that you will
consider implementing more recycling stations throughout University Village.

Sincerely,

Nicholas Gee
