Physical Education and Health Long Range Plans

Sunnyside Elementary School—Grade 3


Myranda Ekkel

The four general outcomes upon which the Kindergarten to Grade 12 physical education program is based state that
students will:
A. Activity—Students will acquire skills through a variety of developmentally appropriate movement activities
B. Benefits—Students will understand, experience and appreciate the health benefits that result from physical
activity
C. Cooperation—Students will interact positively with others
D. Do It Daily for Life—Students will assume responsibility to lead an active way of life

Three general outcomes serve as the foundation for the Health and Life Skills Kindergarten to Grade 9 Program of
Studies:
1. Wellness Choices— Students will make responsible and informed choices to maintain health and to promote
safety for self and others.
2. Relationship Choices—Students will develop effective interpersonal skills that demonstrate responsibility,
respect and caring in order to establish and maintain healthy interactions
3. Life Learning Choices—Students will use resources effectively to manage and explore life roles and career
opportunities and challenges.
*Health class is held about once a week for a 30 minute period
*Report card and Parent-Teacher Interview dates have yet to be determined

Significant Classroom Demographics:


 There will be 16 students within the classroom
 2 students with an ISP (both students are significantly behind in their reading and writing abilities)
 IPP: one student is diagnosed with ADHD and anxiety
 No split grades
 No assistants
 No ELL or refugees
Necessary Accommodations:
 Two students are significantly behind in their reading and writing abilities
 Differentiated instruction coinciding with reading and writing within Health class will be necessary
 Simplified worksheets
 Working with other students
 Fidget toys and strategies for the student on an IPP—creating strategies to help complete necessary work
while also giving them the opportunity to take breaks and not feel overwhelmed
