Teacher Candidate: Tyia Lee Date: December 2, 2018

Grade and Topic: Kindergarten Math Length of Lesson:

Mentor Teacher: Ms.Townes School: University of Memphis

UNIT/CHAPTER OBJECTIVE/GENERALIZATION/BIG IDEA:

● This lesson plan is part of counting, knowing the numbers and their sequence.

LESSON OBJECTIVE:
● Students will be able to recognize numbers and describe orally how to count to 100 by ones and tens at 90%
accuracy.
● Students will be able to skip count orally when called upon or as a class at 90% accuracy.
STANDARDS ADDRESSED:
● Common Core CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.K.CC.A.1
Count to 100 by ones and tens
 ISTE 7. Students use digital tools to broaden their perspectives and enrich their learning by collaborating with
others and working effectively in teams locally and globally. 7a: Students use digital tools to connect with
learners from a variety of backgrounds and cultures, engaging with them in ways that broaden mutual
understanding and learning.

MATERIALS:
● Counting worksheet
● Hundreds chart for visuals
● Computer for the teacher which will be used to show a video to students and for the class to make their own
video.
● Clipchamp video editor

BACKGROUND and RATIONALE:

● The concept is to learn how to count with numbers because students will use this throughout their entire life.
● The language needed to be addressed would be the counting numbers. Also record and stop when we begin to
construct our video.
● This lesson builds their knowledge on counting and numbers which will prepare them for the next lesson about
counting forward from a given number and knowing its’ sequence.
● I will build on this lesson by continuing to teach counting and numbers so that students familiarize their self with
the order of numbers.
● I will need to plan for differentiated lessons for ESL students and for those who are not catching on as quick as
other students so they will not be lost or in need of help.

PROCEDURES AND TIMELINE:

● Introduction: I will begin with showing the number 100 on the board and ask students if they know
what that number is. Following the question, I will explain how big of a number it is and that we will be
learning how to count to 100 today.(2min)
● Procedures:
● I will begin with asking a few students to count to see where they are with their counting before
this lesson begins. (2min)
● Then I will instruct students to stand and let them know it’s time to get our bodies stretching and
I will then show the YouTube video to help with counting to 100. (3min)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0TgLtF3PMOc&t=2s
● After we have finished the video students will take a seat and I will pass around the one hundred
chart for us to count as a class. Each student will count a number in order until we have finished.
Meaning one student starts at 1 then the next says 2 until we have finished. At each ten we will yell that
number aloud 10, 20,30... (3min)
● I will explain to the student what 10s are and why we yelled at each one. And that is to
familiarize ourselves with those numbers before we start to learn them.(2min)
● Show the YouTube video to help with counting by 10s. (3min)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-gmEe0-_ex8
● After we have finished the video, I will pass out the two counting worksheets for students to
work on to review what we just learned. The first worksheet students will do on their own which will be
regular counting. The second worksheet we will do as a class and that will be counting by 10s. (15 mins)

● Closure: For a bonus activity, I will give the class the opportunity to make our own counting to 100
video like we watched today in class. The students will be able to choose dance moves to do in this
video to help with counting. Such as clapping, stomping, and any other dance move students would like
to do. (15mins)

ASSESSMENT EVIDENCE:
● The assessments for this lesson would be the worksheets we worked on, walking around to check and
make sure the class is counting correctly, and having students count aloud.
● The link between the goals and objectives establishes their counting by ones and tens.

MODIFICATIONS:
● Those who could not meet the objective for today could work on counting before class for a warm up.
● They can be paired with an elbow partner to make sure they have help during the lesson.
● I could modify the numbers to make them bigger when we’re learning them and give visual objects to
represent the numbers we are counting.
The answer key for worksheet 1: 7,5,4,8,9,3

Answers for skip counting worksheet: only the answers that needs to be filled in 10,20,40,50,60,80,90,100
