What is current situation or position?

I really do love the topic I have chosen. The topic I originally had was very close to me
but I needed another topic that had connected really close to me throughout my entire life. With
the research I have done so far there are numerous regions throughout the United States who
have face this same issue and the unequal distribution of funds for the public schools in an area.
However, there has been action taken place in order to close the achievement gap and numerous
organizations have reached out to help these marginalized, underrepresented populations.

Does it answer any questions?

It answers the question of why there may be a tendency for minorities to not pursue
higher education or tend to be the individuals who are behind in academics in comparison to
white individuals. The main focus is to uncover and present to the reader the inequalities faced
by the students who attend low funded schools because of residing in low income areas.

Does it offer something new?

Essay includes actions and solutions that have already been taken into effect in relation to
the issue of inequity. I also want to investigate the ways in which one could prevent this issue
from expanding. In addition, I have found several programs that reach out to students who may
be at risk and have been developed for either, very young children or for those who are in high
school who are about to graduate.

Does it follow something old?

YESSSS. It roots back to the civil rights movement and the segregation of public schools
during the 1960s. I want to draw connections to show how the discrimination and lack of
progress people of color or minorities groups still face. Moreover, there still remains schools that
are segregated unintentionally because of one’s social class status and these schools tend to be at
a major disadvantage in comparison to those schools residing in a wealthier area.

Does it challenge someone or is it challenged by someone?

The topic does not necessarily challenge anyone but rather it is to bring more awareness
to a wider audience who may not be aware of the disparities that remain evident in some of the
public schools within school districts. As a result, having had increased awareness, more help
and consideration can be offered to the schools who reside in low income areas. Moreover, it
helps to identify students who may be at risk and encourage increased support for these students.

Uncover the disadvantages within schools that are faced by minority students residing in
a low income areas who have a greater risk of not pursuing higher education and investigate
organizations that unite these individuals and empower them.
