TREATMENT FOR EXPANSION JOINT size 50mm x 25mm

Specification Clause:
Providing, fixing, mixing, and laying to the designated area for the Expansion Joints using Hydrocell XL, a
High performance, cross linked, closed cell, non-absorbent, and polyethylene joint filler should be
used for forming the expansion joints during concreting itself. Treating the Expansion joint using sealant
Thioflex 600, Two-part polysulphide based sealant at the location as per the Clients / Contractors
drawing. Followed by a water tight membrane only for exposed condition where ever necessary using
Expoband One, a flexible expansion joint membrane

Product description:

1. FILLER BOARD-: FOSROC HYDROCEL XL polyethylene sheet High performance, cross linked,
closed cell, Non absorbent, polyethylene joint filler.

2. PACKER ROD-: polythylene foam Closed cell polyethylene joint sealant back-up cord

3. SEALANT – FOSROC THIOFLEX 600 is a two part joint sealant based on a liquid polysulphide
polymer. It is supplied as a 2.5 L pack containing a base component and curing agent in the
correct proportions which, when mixed together, cure to form a tough rubber-like material. When
cured, the sealant exhibits excellent adhesion to most surfaces including concrete, aluminium and
stainless steel. Priming is recommended for porous surfaces and for some specific surfaces and
applications. Thioflex 600 is available in two grades. Gun grade for general applications and
Pouring grade for joints in horizontal.

4. EPOXY LAYER for FIXING WATERTIGHT MEMBRANE(FOSROC EXPOBAND ONE) -:

Nitomortar FC is a two component thixotropic, solvent free, compound based on epoxy resins,
graded fillers and thixotropic agents. It is applied directly to concrete substrates, without primer,
and self-cures. The base component is light grey coloured and the hardener black to ease
identification of uniform mixing

5. WATERTIGHT MEMBRANE FOSROC EXPOBAND ONE : Expoband One is a Hypalon

membrane system which is designed to be bonded over movement joints in structures to prevent
the passage of water.

Method Statement for Expansion Joint in Horizontal & Vertical EXTERNAL side

1. To provide expansion joint during concreting 25mm thick Hydrocell XL, a High performance,
cross linked, closed cell, non absorbent, polyethylene joint filler should be placed to the
entire thickness of the concrete and concreted. To be provided by Civil contractor.

2. Provide 30 mm dia packer rod to be provided & tightly packed on the top of Hydrocell XL Board
Masking tape should be applied along the joint on either side of the joint.

3. Two parallel sides of the joints where the sealant bonds with the concrete should be primed with
Primer No 7E or Primer 4 leaving the third side un-primed i.e Bottom side.

4. As the primer becomes tacky, Thioflex 600, Two-part polysulphide based sealant should be
applied at 50mm X 25mm using a gun grade sealant for Vertical application and Pourable grade
for Horizontal application respectively and masking tape should be removed as soon as the
sealant starts to cure.

5. The sealant should not be disturbed for minimum 24 hrs after placing.

6. Providing a Watertight Membrane over Expansion Joint using EXPOBAND ONE

a. Surface preparation grinding and removing and existing primer / algae / expose the parent
concrete.

b. Apply Epoxy material of first layer at 2.0mm thick using Nitomortar FC , a two component
thixotropic, solvent free, compound based on epoxy resins, graded fillers and thixotropic
agents. It is applied directly to concrete substrates, without primer an epoxy should be spread
on concrete surface either side of the nose of expansion joint

c. Gently position Expoband One over Sealant where membrane should be struck with a rubber
hammer taping to squeeze the adhesive through the holes in Expoband One.

d. Second layer of Nitomortar FC at 2.0mm applied on the Expoband One [Care to be taken not
to apply adhesive above the expansion joint area of the membrane] and finish the same.

e. For Traffic / driving area, the Expansion joint shall be protected by Galvanized metal
sheet Anchoring at one side of the Expansion Joint’s Concrete side that ensure the
Function of MAF.
