D O L A Y L I A N L A T I M INDIRECT SPEECH / REPORTED SPEECH

"I am going to do it tonight"
He said that he was going to do it that night. ....veya,
He said he was going to do it that night.

Giriş/tanıştırma öbeği, "He says... He asked me... He recommend

Aktarılan cümlelerde kişi, yer, zaman belirteci bakımından "mantığın gerektirdiği" değiştirimler
uygulanır:
"Come here tonight." cümlesinin "zaman ve zemine" göre olası aktarımlarını aşağıda örnekleyelim:
[Lütfen, bu tip karşılaştırmalı örnekleri yeterince inceleyip irdelediğinizden emin olunuz...]
He is telling me to come here tonight... Zaman ve mekanda aynı noktadayız. Örneğin anında çeviri
(instantaneous translation) bu tür bir aktarım gerektirecektir.
He will tell you to go there that night... Örneğin, "Birkaç gün sonra kendisini görmeğe gittiğinde,
sana o gece oraya gitmeni söyleyecektir..." türünde bir anlatım.
He told me this morning to come here tonight... Aynı gece aynı mekana gelmiş bulunuyoruz = Bu
sabah bana bu gece buraya gelmemi söyledi / söylemişti...
He told me to go there tonight...
He told me to go there that night...

She said to “I can't come here Tomorrow”

1) DÜZ-CÜMLELERİN AKTARILMASI
Kullanılan bağlaç : THAT (çoğu zaman düşürülerek...)
"I am going to do it tonight"
1 He says (that) he is going to do it tonight.
2 He said (that) he was going to do it that night. (veya, halâ aynı gün içindeysek: tonight)
3 He will tell you (that) he is going to do it that night. (veya, halâ aynı gün içindeysek: tonight)

Birinci örnek, konuşma anında yapılan bir aktarımdır. Bu açıdan bakıldığında "bu gece", hala "bu
gece" dir.

He says that... He is telling us... He has told us... He has been telling us...
(**) Yani: past simple, past continuous, past perfect simple ve past perfect continuous: He said
that... He was telling us... He had told us... He had been telling us...
(***) Yani: future simple, future continuous, future perfect simple ve future perfect continuous: He
will say that... He will be telling us... He will have told us... He will have been telling us...

2) SORULARIN AKTARILMASI
A) Yardımcı Fiillerle Kurulan Sorular :
Dolaylı anlatıma ilişkin yapılar üç ana başlık altında incelenebilir:

I'm sure he will ask whether she is going shopping or not.
Meltem
I'm sure he will want to whether or she is going shopping this afternoon

3) EMİR CÜMLELERİNİN AKTARILMASI

Bu amaçla olumlu / olumsuz mastarlar kullanılır:

"Sit down." "Don't ever do it again!"

- He wants me to sit down. - He is urging me not to do it ever again.
- He told me to sit down. - He warned me not to do it ever again.
- They will ask you to sit down. -You will be warned not to it ever again.

"You must give up smoking," said the doctor.
- His doctor urged that he (should) give up smoking.

"Go home immediately and don't go out again until you feel better," said the doctor.
The doctor warned me that I (should) go home immediately and not go out again until I felt better.

"Do not drink and drive," the authorities advise us.

The authorities advise us that we (should) not drink and drive.

"Let's lend our support to the new programme," Ali suggested.

Ali suggested that we (should) lend our support to the new programme.

term debts.

"Keep your diets relatively free of fat," experts advise us.

Experts advise us that we (should) keep our diets relatively free of fat

TEMEL KURAL – 1 TENSE DEĞİŞTİRİMLERİ

A) Giriş fiili herhangi bir PRESENT yada FUTURE tense olduğunda (dörderden toplam 8
tense) aktarılan sözlerde herhangi bir tense değişikliği uygulanmaz:

"I get up at seven each morning."

He says...
He will tell you... that he gets up at seven each
He has just told me... morning.
He will have been telling the audience..

B) Giriş fiili herhangi bir PAST tense olduğunda (toplam 4 tense) aktarılan sözler bir derece
geriye/geçmişe taşınır:
"I get up at seven each morning."

He said...
He was telling us... that he got up at seven each
He had told his friends... morning.
He had been telling his audience..

B) Soru Sözcüğü / Öbekleri İle Kurulan Sorular :

Bağlaç : Soru Sözcüğü / Öbeğinin Kendisi

He is asking me what time it is.

"What time is it?" He asked me what time it was.
First of all, he will ask you what time it is.

4
NOT: Yinelersek, dolaylı anlatım konusu bu noktaya değin isim-cümleciklere tam bir koşutluk
izlemektedir.

"What nonsense!"... "How horrible!"... "What a nuisance!"...
- She exclaimed / readily agreed ...etc
that it was nonsense / horrible / a nuisance.

"What a terrible smell this is!"

- She remarked disgustedly that it was a terrible smell.

"Ugh!"... "Oh!"... "Good heavens!"... "Oh, great!"... etc.

- She exclaimed with disgust... She exclaimed with horror...

She exclaimed with surprise... She exclaimed with contentment ... etc.

She gave an exclamation of disgust...

She gave an exclamation of horror...
She gave an exclamation of surprise...
She gave an exclamation of contentment... etc.

Ayrıca şu örnekleri de inceleyiniz:

"Thank you." She thanked me

"Welcome!" She welcomed me
"Happy new year!" She wished me a happy new year
"Liar!" She called me a liar

"What am I to do now!" (Ne yapacağım, ne olacağım ben şimdi!)
- She wondered what she would do under the circumstances... She asked herself what... etc.
"How could he be so cruel to me!"
- She asked herself in pain how he could be so cruel to her... She just couldn't understand how he
could be so cruel to her...
Hatta, biraz edebi bir tavırla:
"Oh, what damnable fate this is that my misery should be of my own doing."
- She swore at her fate as she also realized that she herself had been the cause her own misery.

"YES" ve "NO" İÇİN DOLAYLI ANLATIM

Örnekleri izleyiniz
6
"Shall I see you again?" / "Yes."
- Ali asked her if he would see her again, and she said he would.
"Can you do it for me?" / "No."
- I did ask her if she could do it for me, and (but) she said she couldn't.
[...ve bana; ...ama bana yapamayacağını söyledi]

"Will you have dinner with me?" / "No."

- I asked her to have dinner with me, but she said she wouldn't.

"I don't know how to do it. Do you?"

She told me she didn't know how to do it and asked me if I did.

"Give it to me. You won't need it."

She told/wanted me to give it to her and added that I wouldn't need it.

"I'm going shopping. Do you want anything?"

She said she was going shopping and asked me if I wanted anything.
2) Cümlelerden birisi uygun bir zarf-fiil (belirteç-fiil, participle) kullanılarak diğerine bağlanabilir
(yani, karmaşık complex cümle teşkil edilir). Bu konuyu, "Participles" Bölümünde, "Kısaltılmış
Zarf-Cümlecikler" başlığı altında ayrıntıları ile incelemiştik):
"Don't buy everything you see. You should spend your money wisely."
His father warned him against buying everything he saw, adding that he should spend his money
wisely. [and he added that...]
"Please, please, don't drink too much! Remember that you'll have to drive us
home."
She begged her husband not to drink too much, reminding him that he would have to drive them
home...
"It's too hot to be outdoors. Maybe we should work indoors."
He pointed out that it was too hot to be outdoors, suggesting that it might be better if we worked
indoors.
cümle "as" ile birbirine bağlanabilir:
"You'd better put on a jacket. It's rather chilly outside."
She advised me to put on a jacket, as it was rather chilly outside.

İLERİ DÜZEY UYGULAMALAR

Aşağıda ileri düzey bilgiler sunulmaktadır. Ulaşmak istediğiniz seviyeden yana çok fazla iddialı
değilseniz bu bölümü atlayabilirsiniz.
Yalnız, iş sınavlara gelince durum biraz farklı. Sınavları düzenleyen kişilerin sizlerden bu derece
"ileri" düzeyde ingilizce beklentisi bulunmayabilir, hatta kendileri bu bilgiye sahip olmayabilir... Bu
bölümde öğreneceklerinizi sınavlarda uygulayıp uygulamayacağınız konusunda, sınavı
düzenleyenlerin beklentisini sezgilerinizle ayrıştırmağa çalışınız.
ÖRNEK: II. Tip if-cümlecikleri indirect dönüşümde tense değişikliğine uğramaz, aynı kalırlar.
Oysa, çoktan seçmeli bir sınav sorusunun şıklarında gerek Tip II gerekse Tip III birlikte öneriliyor
olabilir.
A Genelde şunu söyleyebiliriz: Kuramsal olarak, "past" tense cümleler "past perfect" cümlelere
"I was in love with her." He said that he had been in love with her. (Cümle konuşulduğu zamana
göre geçmiş bir dönemden söz ediyordu. Bu, şimdi bulunduğumuz konuma göre "geçmişin
geçmişi", dolayısıyla da past perfect olur. Bir zamanlar onu sevmiş olduğunu söyledi...
"Ali was here on Monday."
She said that Ali was here/there on Monday.
She said that Ali had been here/there on Monday.
Past perfect
continuous'a dönüştürülmez:
"I was thinking of paying a visit to her, but then I changed my mind." He said he had been
thinking of paying a visit to her, but had then changed his mind.
"When I saw her, she was doing her morning shopping." He said that when he saw her she was
doing her morning shopping. (She had been doing... şeklini tercih ederseniz: Ama sonra alışverişi
bitirdiğini de gördüm, demiş olursunuz. Oysa asıl cümle, yalnızca "alışveriş yaparken gördüm"
diyordu...)
a) To be fiilinin past perfect dönüşümü çok enderdir, çünkü genellikle anlam kaymasına yol
açacaktır:
"All the paintings we saw there were authentic"

9
YANLIŞ : He told us all the paintings they had seen there had been authentic... = Eskiden
otantiktiler, sonradan sahteleri ile değiştirildiler... anlamını verecektir.
DOĞRU : He told us that all the paintings they had seen there were authentic... = Çünkü, "bir
zamanlar" değil, "geniş zamanda" otantik...
b) Zaman bildiren zarf-cümlecikler, genelde past simple / past continuous tense'lerini korur, past
perfect dönüşümüne uğramazlar. Ana-cümleciğin durumu ise seçeneklidir:
"When we lived / were living in İstanbul, we often visited the museums."
She told me that when they lived /were living in İstanbul, they often visited / had often visited the
museums.
D If'li cümlelerde, anlam kaymasına yol açacağından, Tip II için herhangi bir değiştirme
uygulanmaz.
"If I weren't desperate, I wouldn't do such a thing. = Çaresiz kalmadıkça böyle birşey yapmam...
Ancak çaresiz kalırsam böyle birşey yaparım...
YANLIŞ : She said that if she hadn't been desperate, she wouldn't have done such a thing.
DOĞRU : She said that if she weren't desperate she wouldn't do such a thing...
NOT: "If I were you..." yapısının da olağan dolaylı anlatım dönüşümünü not ediniz:
"If I were you, I'd wait a little longer."
He told me... He urged me... He advised me to wait a little longer. Yada,
He suggested that I wait a little longer.
E "I wish... I'd rather... It's time..." gibi subjunctive yapılardan sonra da tense değiştirimi
uygulanmaz. Aksi takdirde, tıpkı if'li cümlelerde olduğu gibi anlam kaymasına yol açılacaktır:
"I wish you didn't smoke so much." Keşke bu kadar çok sigara içmesen...
She said that she wished I didn't smoke so much... Burada "hadn't smoked" tercihi, asıl cümlenin de
"I wish you hadn't smoked so much" şeklinde olduğu, yani "Keşke geçmişte içmemiş olsaydın"
anlamının iletildiği anlamına gelecektir...
F Kim Atatürk'ümüzün, Leonardo Da Vinci yada Einstein'in sözlerinde değişikliğe cüret edebilir
ki? "Vecize" ler ve tarih biliminde kullanılan cümleler tense değiştirim kuralları dışında kalır.
The teacher reminded us that the Republic was established in 1923... Their guide explained to his
group of tourists that Atatürk was born in Selanik (Salonica), a city which was part of the Ottoman
Empire in those days...
Before the twenties, Einstein had already told us that E equals MC square...
- By the time he was twenty, Marx had already told us that someday the working classes would
inevitably come to power...
H Would / should / could / might / ought to / used to / had better... gibi yardımcı fiillerle kurulan
yapılar çoğunlukla tense değiştirim kapsamı dışında kalır. Aksi takdirde anlam kaymasına yol
açılmış olacaktır:
"I would like to go." She said she would like to go. (Çünkü, "She said she would have liked to
go," veya "She said she would like to have gone..." gibi tercihler sözleri genelleme boyutundan
çıkarıp, sanki geçmişte böyle bir olay yada durum sözkonusu olmuşmuş anlamına gelecektir.
"You should do it here and now." He said that I should doit there and then... He advised me to do
it there and then...
"You had better not drink this milk. It has gone sour." She said that I'd better not drink that milk,
adding that it had gone sour... She warned me not to drink that milk, as it had gone sour...

a) Must = şimdiki zamanda zorunluluk = have to
must had to
"I must leave today." He said that he had to leave that day.
b) Must = gelecek zamanda zorunluluk = will have to
must would have to
"I must leave tomorrow." He said he would have to leave the following day
c) Must = genel kurallar ve yasaklar
must must
"You mustn't cross the road against the red light." The policeman told the children that they
mustn't cross the road against the red light.
d) Must = mantıksal çıkarsama, niyet, öğüt bildirimi
must must
must have been must have been
"He's getting fatter and fatter; he must be eating to much." She said that he was getting fatter and
fatter, and added that he must be eating too much.
"He was feeling quite sick and I felt sure that he must have been eating too much." She said that
he was feeling quite sick and she felt he must have been eating too much.
