Laboratory Activity #1 (Midterms): Mitosis

All types of cells have the ability to reproduce through cell division, which is part of the cell cycle.
Making new cells ensures that organisms grow and increase in number. In cell cycle, DNA duplication
is taking place and it is also in this phase where the cell grows and performs its normal metabolic
activities. As the DNA is duplicated completely, the cell is now ready to undergo mitosis, which results
in the separation of the DNA copies.

I. Objectives
At the end of the laboratory activity, the learners shall be able to:
Identify the different phases of mitosis in the animal and plant specimen.

II. Materials
Laboratory Gown/Coat Allium cepa root tip specimen
Microscope Whitefish blastula specimen

III. Procedure
Examine the cells on the Allium cepa root tip specimen and Whitefish blastula specimen using
HPO. Identify the different phases of mitosis and use any of your gadget (e.g., cellphone, iPad, etc.)
to take pictures of the different phases on the specimens provided. Print and paste the pictures in the
illustrations part below.
