Lesson Plan

Personal Target
1. Choose and describe an aspect from a teaching competency that you need to work on (Goal)
 Explain activities in a clear and detailed way.
2. Describe what you will do to help achieve your goal (Strategies Used)
 Give verbal instruction and model the activities using PowerPoint slides.

3. Describe how you can tell if you’re achieving your goal (Evidence)
 The students will not waste time on thinking what to do.

Grade: Subject: Learning Outcome (ADEC):

4-2 Math The student will be able to estimate the output of

multiplication operations by rounding numbers to
the largest value.

Strand: Multiplication and division.

Language & Estimation

Key vocabulary
Questions using Remembering level: What is the timestable of 9-8-7-6-5
Bloom’s Taxonomy
levels Understanding level: Could we use the multiplication scheme to find the factors of a
number?

Applying level: Estimating and multiplying the number?

Analyzing level: Why do you think 6 become 7?

Evaluating level: choosing the correct answer using Plickers game

Creating level: Create a question and then send it to other groups.

Introduction (warmer activity + teacher introduction/demonstration of small group activities

The teacher will start the lesson by playing lucky spinner with the students. The teacher will pick a
student to answer a random question after spinning the wheel. The spinner contain revision and
refreshing questions like (what is the value of (4) 1437 / 9x9= / round 328 to the nearest hundred.

Then the teacher will explain the first example (There are passenger trains that can cut 467
kilometers per hour. What distance can the train travel in 3 hours?)

The teacher will round the number to the largest value which is 500 then she will explain for the
students how four become five. She will multiply the estimated number by 3 (3x5=15) then she will

add two zero because the number has three digits. So, the train can cut 1500 km in 3 hours. The
teacher will explain to the students how to estimate numbers and how to multiply the estimated
Whole

number to find the output of the multiplication operation.

Independent Experience (small group activity 1): Send question

Each group will have a post card they will write a question for one group then they will switch the
cards with other.

Independent Experience (small group activity 2): Estimating train

Each group has a three-container train and a question. They must estimate the output of the
multiplication by approximating the number to the largest place value and then multiplying the
estimated number.

This activity is differentiated based on student’s levels:

Mastered level: They will have to estimate large number of four digits.

Developing level: They will multiply the estimated number.

Emerging level: They will have to estimate three digits number.

Extension for early finishers : They will complete the book exercises on page 205.

In the closing time, I will retell the students what we have taken. ‘Today we learned about the

Assessment (Plickers)

Each student will have a coded card and they will answer the questions displayed on the board.
They will have four options in the board and on their cards and they will raise the card on the correct
option by rotating the card on the correct side. Then the teacher well scans their answers by taking a
video.
