to 2500 mm length. For pouring water, a GI funnel with wire mesh and cap shall be provided on the top end of the pipe. With this
arrangement, the water, poured from the funnel, shall flow in the entire length of pipe and uniformly spread into the earth pit.
vi. Brick chamber & cover:
a. This brick chamber with cement plaster of dimensions in accordance with the drawing shall be constructed so as to protect the
earthing station and to facilitate to locate the earthing station easily. The chamber shall also facilitate pouring of water and would
provide easy access for testing, which would require disconnection of the earth electrode and connection to the earthing grid.
b. IS marked cast iron cover of appropriate dimensions shall be supplied as specified in IS: 3043 along with fabricated MS angle

vii. Depth of earth pipe:
a. The depth of an earth electrode pipe shall be in approximately in accordance with the drawing as well as on nature of soil.
However as per general guidelines, the pipe electrode shall have to be placed at depth where soft earth is available. This is to
reduce the effect of earth resistance.
b. Prior to digging at the site, the earth test results shall be referred to so that it may provide necessary guidelines for the depth to be
maintained.

5.3 Earthing/Grounding met conductors

5.3.1 GI flat of size 65mm x 10mm shall be used to form the grounding met. The grounding met shall be formed by making
interconnections between earthing stations and grounding met shall be as shown in the earthing layout drawing.
5.3.2 Minimum depth of grounding conductor shall be 1000mm. Generally, the conductors shall be laid as per layout, however wherever
pipelines or cables shall be encountered en route, suitable modification for route shall be carried out at site during course of
execution of work. Necessary protection to the conductors laid underground shall be provided with sand/bricks to prevent
