harvest will begin soon. Hay is being baled and hauled to sterling which he says is taking up
the majority of his hours right now. One concern Nate has is for the water availability next
year. Well water is not expected to be available and he doesn't plan to count on rain. To
prepare for this, he and his family will soon be installing a drip irrigation system so that they
can be more conservative with water usage and improve efficiency.
Recommendation: Continue updating AET journal records. Please include notes about
valuable skills acquired and challenges faced.

medication administration and safe methods to administer to animals. She is getting to
analyze x-rays and collaborating in the synthesis of diagnoses and treatments. X-rays are
still challenging to read. Identifying anatomical parts in x-rays is part of that obstacle.
Recommendation: Record book is up to date on FFA activities but not SAE hours. Make an
entry after every farm visit and address 1. what you learned, 2. what was challenging, 3. what
was important?

with EMS calls taking vitals. He participates in trainings every other week. In his most recent,
he studied how smoke patterns can provide information about fire types. This will help him
toward his career goal of being a fire fighter by providing networking opportunities to assist
him in getting hired later.
Recommendation: Next journal entry, address each of your goals and how your experiences
have helped you get closer to reaching them.
10/29/2018SAE Visit (E Turner) - SAE Assessment - Saddie Hammond 0.00 1.00 0 1 0 $0
Evaluation: Saddie's rodeo season has come to a close for the year. In the meantime, she is
still managing her horses through feeding, cleaning, and exercising. She faced a challenge
this year when she injured her knee goat tying. This made her focus on how she could
prepare for setbacks in the future. Saddie eventually plans to work in dental hygiene. Her
rodeo experience has given her a chance to develop interpersonal and professional skills
when interacting with other competitors and rodeo secretaries.
Recommendation: Log hours each week, not just in class to document time spent managing
your horses.
Recommendation: For your next journal entry, address your goals. Explain where you are in
meeting them. Enter all FFA activities in your journal.

Creamista SAE. She will work in her kitchen to experiment with new ways to process dairy
products into a value-added product like ice cream.

findings. Begin developing a research question.
10/29/2018SAE Visit (E Turner) - SAE Assessment - Dovvie Knowlton 0.00 1.00 0 1 0 $0
Evaluation: Dovvie volunteers 4 hours a week with a veterinary clinic doing vet-tech work.
She gets to observe surgeries and assist with general animal handling. She has learned that
vet techs do a lot of the hands-on management work while the veterinarians get to come in
for just short exams and surgeries. She wants to become a veterinarian one day so that she
can perform these surgeries because they are what are interesting to her. She has learned
how important sanitation is and takes part in safety protocols for the facility. She assists in
keeping pens clean and animals separated based on needs and transferrable diseases. She
describes and uses a record-keeping and accountability system for these operations and the
office.
Evaluation: Breanne has a foundational SAE in veterinary medicine. She owns animals at
home. Last year a show pig was ill and she learned to administer antibiotics to it. She has
also worked with her grandfather's cattle in tubing and general care. She has also raised
sheep. Last year she pulled a lamb.
Evaluation: Emily's ultimate career goal is to become an orthopedic surgeon after getting a
nursing degree. Her foundational SAE is in veterinary science and she will be relating animal
healthcare experience back to her ultimate career goal. She has experience feeding and
caring for goats including administering shots and managing general health.
Recommendation: Update your AET record book each time you have an at-home experience
with veterinary medicine. Seek out your family vet an interview him about the job.
Evaluation: Nate works every day on his family's farm. This visit was a tour where he
explained the process of the current corn-harvest, feeding procedures, and
vehicle/equipment maintenance. Nate has clearly gained knowledge about tractor/implement
maintenance and restoration through his work there. He also articulates the value of time
and efficiency on the farm and how saving time and completing quality work saves money.
The cattle on the property are owned by other parties but are managed and cared for by the
Bregars. Nate helped with watermelon seed harvest over the summer and explained the
thrashing process. Nate hopes to attend college for agricultural engineering after high school
and go on to work as a test engineer for CASE and perhaps go back to farming eventually.
He says that the biggest challenges come when something breaks and he has to take time
out of his schedule to fix the problem. Overcoming this obstacle occurs through regular
maintenance, and foresight of issues as well as some ingenuity in fixing problems. AET
Records reflect work done.
Recommendation: Continue entering hours. Really spend time reflecting on how this
experience will assist you in reaching your career goals after high school.
