Universal Design for Learning (UDL): For students struggling with shapes, the video used outlines shapes so
that each shape is clear and understandable.

Lesson idea implementation: The teacher will begin the lesson by playing the video attached to this lesson
plan. After the video, ask the students what shapes they noticed in the video. After this discussion, put
your students into a circle with a blue square, red circle, and yellow triangle in the middle of the circle. Tell
your students that you will describe a shape, and they have to guess and point to what shape in the circle
they think the teacher is describing. After doing this, give the students independent work time. With this
time, give the students a sheet with circles, squares, and rectangles on it. Tell the students to color the all
of the circles red, all of the squares blue, and all of the triangles yellow.
Importance of technology: The video at the beginning of this lesson is important to the students because it
gets a hold of their attention. The video has music and pictures, so it engages the students and gives them a
glimpse at what they will be learning that day. it also gets the students excited because the music is upbeat,
and the pictures are colorful and bright.

Inspiration (optional): None

Internet Safety and Student Privacy: When sharing videos in class, it is important to be aware and informed
of the internet safety policies that are in use in your own school. For this particular video, I created it myself
using the app Movie Maker. I insured that it was appropriate for my students by only putting child friendly
pictures and video clips into it. I also got the music for my video using a free music website to ensure that I was
following copyright rules.

Reflective Practice: After creating this lesson, I am pleased, and excited for my students to further their
learning about shapes. I used this lesson as an intro into the unit of shapes, and I think this was a good entry
point to get the students excited about what is to come.
