In January 2016, CMIE started releasing estimates of India's
unemployment rate. Monthly estimates of unemployment
rate are released immediately after the end of the month. This
is the fastest release of the monthly unemployment rate of any
country. The estimate is based on a survey of over 100,000
individuals over 15 years of age.
Separate estimates are created for rural and urban regions.
And, a 30-day moving average of the unemployment rate is
released every day.
Unemployment rates are released for free public
consumption. The generation of unemployment rate
estimates is a joint effort of BSE, one of India's leading stock

CMIE, in collaboration with University of Michigan and BSE,
jointly produces consumer sentiment indices. We deploy the
methodology used by the Survey Research Center at
University of Michigan. Consumer sentiment indices are
generated based on responses from a large panel of
households of CMIE's Consumer Pyramids survey.
Like the unemployment rates, the consumer sentiments
indices are released for free public consumption.
Consumer sentiment indices are released every day based on
a 30-day moving average of observations. Estimates are also
released immediately after the end of a month.
Social Attitudes Surveys for
Lok Foundation
CMIE has been commissioned by Lok Foundation to conduct
several large household surveys to help understand social
attitudes in India. These surveys are scheduled to be
conducted between 2013 and 2018.
In these surveys, we elicit responses from households to
understand social and political configurations in India. These
surveys intend to contribute and facilitate rigorous empirical
research to deepen our understanding of the Indian social
fabric.
CMIE deploys state-of-the-art methods and technology to
conduct these social attitudes surveys.
Monitoring Disclosures of Listed
Companies for BSE
CMIE has been commissioned by BSE to monitor the
mandatory disclosures by companies listed on the exchange.
CMIE deploys its expertise in information processing,
accounting practices and disclosure requirements to deliver
alerts of deviations in real time to the exchange.
This joint effort by BSE and CMIE ensures that the exchange is
able to ensure compliance and meet regulatory requirements.
Commodity Price Polling for NCDEX
CMIE has been commissioned by National Commodity &
Derivatives Exchange of India to poll spot prices from a large
network of market intermediaries across the country,
bootstrap these to produce benchmark prices and deliver
them to the exchange in real-time. These prices are used in
settlement of futures contracts and for public dissemination
by the exchange.

CMIE's capabilities are used by other organisations to bring efficiency into their work process flows.
