Problem No.1 Cantilever Beam Analysis
Problem No. 1

I. ANSYS Solution
A new material having properties given in problem is imported in the data
section before the creating CAD model in the design modeler.

Fig. 1 Data input in Engineering Data

i. Geometry
The cantilever Beam is generated in Design Modeler of workbench of ANSYS.
With the dimensions provided in the problem.

Fig. 2 CAD model for Cantilever Beam

ii. Mesh
For the mesh sizing is set up to the Fine and having element size 1.5mm.

Fig. 3 Mesh

iii. Boundary Conditions

A fixed support is attached to one side of the beam so that it could be the
cantilever beam.

Fig. 4 Boundary Conditions

iv. Results
The following are the results obtained for the Natural Frequency through the
analysis.

Fig. 5 Natural Frequency and its Graph

To check the convergence of the result the total frequencies are split up into three
modes and the results are shown below.

II. Analytical Solution
The analytical solution is calculated online from the following website
http://www.amesweb.info/Vibration/Vibration-Calculators.aspx this website gives
the accurate calculation by using the following equation

Problem No.2 Flow Analysis of 90 Degree Planar Branch

Problem No.2

i. Geometry
The design modeler is used to sketch the 3D model with the provided dimensions in
the problem statement. After that a 2D body surface is generated. This 2D was
exported for the generation of Mesh.

Fig. 11 2D Surface
ii. Mesh
Inflation method is used to replicate the no-slip conditions at boundaries of the
surface to generate very fine mesh.

Fig. 12 Simple Mesh

Fig. 13 Mesh with Inflation Method

iii. The Boundary Conditions (Fluent)
The material list was updated with the Air as new material and the following
boundary conditions were set for the analysis.
a. Velocity inlet: parabolic velocity profile was imported and applied to the inlet
b. Pressure outlets: both outlets were set to pressure outlets with 0 pressure
The model was assumed as having the laminar flow having Energy key on. The
results are then calculated until the 347 iterations.

iv. Results
The velocity and the pressure contour for laminar flow of air by the 900 channel is
calculated which are shown in the following figures.

Fig. 14 Residual Convergence

The maximum velocity is determined by the vertical red region which tells that it is
within the straight channel and air enters with very small velocity in the branching
channel.

Fig. 15 Contour of Velocity

Fig. 16 Contour of Pressure

The mass flow rate at the outlet and inlet is determined by using the Fluxes option.

Mass flow rate,

outlet kg/s-0.07104556
x
outlet -0.6012465 Fraction, 0.8934
y inlet 0.67228234 F 5

The result calculated and the reference result has deviation of 0.88 kg/s which allows that the
analysis are accurate.
