Text Dependent Analysis on Electricity and Magnetism –

A Relationship that Powers our World

Today you will write a text dependent analysis response (TDA). You will respond to the
prompt given below citing evidence from both the article and the completed graphic organizer
provided. When citing evidence from the article in your writing, be sure to give the paragraph
number from which you gathered your evidence. This number is found inside the parenthesis
at the end of each paragraph on the article document. When citing evidence from the graphic
organizer in your writing, be sure to give the row number and column number from which you
gathered your evidence. The row number should be listed first, and the column number
should be listed second. You must have at least 3 citations from each resource (6 total).
Resource 1: Article on Electricity and Magnetism
Resource 2: Completed Graphic Organizer on Electricity and Magnetism
Electricity and magnetism are related. Analyze and describe the relationship
between electricity and magnetism using three different models to exemplify how
magnetic fields, produced by electrical energy flow in a circuit, are interrelated in
electromagnets, simple electrical motors, and generators. Use evidence from the
article and completed graphic organizer to support your response. Be sure to cite
your evidence by paragraph number in the article and by row, column in the graphic
organizer.

Electricity and Magnetism are have a relationship by the types of models, a generator, an
electromagnet, and an electric motor.
A generator changes mechanical energy to electric energy. In the column 1 and row 3 it
states that electricity is changed into mechanical and magnetism by a generator. A generator
contains coils of wire that rotate the turbines. The spin of the magnets create a force field that
generates the electricity.
An electromagnet forms when a wire is wrapped around an iron core. In column 1 and in
row 2 it says, an electro magnet is formed when a wire is wrapped around an iron core to form
a magnetic field. Electricity flows through the circuit creating a magnetic field which powers
the electromagnet.
An electric motor transforms electrical energy into mechanical energy. An electric motor
contains an electromagnet that between poles of a magnet. In column 2 and row 4 it states,
electromagnets rotate between poles of a magnet. The attraction or repulsion of the poles of
a magnet causes coils to transform into chemical energy into mechanical energy.
Magnetic fields, the flow in a circuit, electromagnets, generators, and electric motors all
make up a part to do to connect the relationship of Electricity and Magnetism.
