job is to make sure that the welders work within the set quality and deadline specifications. He is
also required to have advanced knowledge of the welding procedures and processes so that he can
guide his subordinates when they are faced with confusion. If you want to know about the various

A welding inspector is responsible for assigning duties and tasks to welding staff so that they can
work together as a team and complete the given work within the deadline. A welding inspector
must assist the welding staff and inspect their working. He/she should help in problem solving
whenever there is confusion or deadlock in the working process. It is the job responsibility of a
welding inspector to perform various
kinds of tests on welding machines to ensure that they are properly
working and are not malfunctioned.
(1) Codes, standards and specifications: Interpretation of the intent and ensuring the
requirements of codes, standards and specifications are met.
(2) Welding procedures: Ensuring that a procedure is available, has been approved and is being
employed in production.
(3) Witnessing of welder and procedure approval tests: Witnessing the preparation of test
plates and destructive tests and verifying compliance with appropriate standards and specifications.
(4) Welder approvals: Verifying that adequate and valid welder approvals are available, and that
only approved welders are used in production.
(5) Parent material: Verifying parent material against documentation and markings.
(7) Pre-weld inspection: Verification that dimensions, fit-up and weld preparations are in
accordance with specifications.
(8) Preheating: Verification that any required preheat is in accordance with the specified
procedure.
(9) In-process welding inspection and surveillance: Surveillance during welding to verify
compliance with specified procedures including any preheat, interpass temperature control and post
heat requirements.
(10) Inspection and Test Plans: Assistance and agreement with the preparation of Inspection and
Test Plans (ITP’s)
(11) Post-weld heat treatment: Verification, when required that post weld heat treatment has
been conducted in accordance with specification requirements.
(12) Post-weld visual inspection: Visual inspection and dimensional check of completed
weldment against specification requirements and drawings.
(13) NDT reports: The study and cognisance of NDT results on any welding work for which the
welding inspector is responsible. Where the duties of the welding inspector include using NDT
methods such as liquid penetrant, magnetic particle, radiography or ultrasonic inspection then it is
suggested that he/she obtains certification in accordance with the related approval schemes.
(14) Reports: Evaluation of and preparation of inspection reports for the employer or the client.
- Always ensure the welding is being carried out within the limits of the approved procedure.
- Never approve anything that does not meet the requirements unless it has been accepted by the
client.
- Be in a good physical condition and be able to go where the welder has been.

Job Summary:
The CWI is responsible for the oversight and inspection of weld activities as requested by PGL.
Job Responsibilities
The CWI will evaluate if proper materials and procedures are used by others to properly make
welds in the field or in the shop.
Confirm compliance with industry and company weld specifications.
The CWI will be familiar, knowledgeable and enforce NDE procedures, codes and standards.
Review company weld procedures prior to implementation in the field.
Verify welding personnel are qualified in the weld practices being performed.
Prepare a register and reports of: Welding personnel and Equipment qualification.
Inspect welds and approve they meet company specifications.
Monitor and verify weld repairs are tracked and conducted in an approved manner.
Communicate all anomalies to their Supervisor.
Review and Approve I Disapprove all Weld Daily Reports and forward to their Supervisor.
Certified Welding Inspector (CWl)-with welding background and/or Certified Pipeline Welding
Inspector (CPWI) - Either certification is acceptable and at minimum one is REQUIRED.
Familiar with API 1104. (American Petroleum Institute Standard for Welding of Pipeline and
Related Facilities).
Previous related welding inspection experience.
Ability to write well for preparation of written reports.
Well versed in creating and manipulating electronic word processing and spreadsheets.
Well organized.
Ability to work independently, self-starting, self-directed.
Ability to recognize problems and address them in an expedited manner. Comfortable with
"difficult" conversations with contractors.

Overview / Responsibilities
Wood is currently recruting for a Welding Inspector for a field based position located in
West Texas area to assure proper welding specifications and procedures are followed.
Responsibilities:
Assure constructor’s welders and equipment are well qualified to complete the
work to be done.
Assure all radiographic procedures are correct and all staff is well qualified.
Verify the correct grades of materials are used for welding procedures.
Coordinate and monitor x-ray crew activities.
Direct and monitor specialty procedures for specific assignments (i.e.; drag unit
fabrication, tie-in welding, etc.).
Visually inspect all welds to assure they are prepared correctly.
Periodically check constructor’s equipment to assure it is suitable for the
execution of the work.
Skills / Qualifications
Must be able to familiarize self with project scope and the associated
specifications and procedures
Minimum five years welding experience related to pipeline and facilities welding
preferred
Knowledge of API 1104 and ASME section IX codes
Certain credentials may be required, depending on the assignment.
o American Welding Society Certified Welding Inspector (AWS-CWI)
credentials.
o Certified Pipeline Welding Inspector (CPWI) credentials.
Overview
Under the supervision of Welding Services Manager, directs and performs day-to-day
welding inspection activities. Witnesses performance testing, procedure qualification
records, welding mock-ups and production welds. Also, coordinates with customer
inspector and provides source inspection for the subcontracted orders involving
welding.
Responsibilities
Weld Inspection (50%)
Reviews, compiles and copies turnover packages and submits to the customer at
the end of each project;
Verifies and documents compliance with welding and installation procedures on a
per job basis (including performing parameter checks with calibrated equipment,
checking fit-ups, preheat and interpass temperature maintenance, performing
EWI cooling rate testing, etc.);
Reviews NDE reports for completeness, accuracy and acceptance in accordance
with the requirements of the project;
Ensures inspection test plans (ITP’s) are followed and all hold/witness/review
points are adhered to and all required signatures obtained;
Project (15%)
Safety (5%)
Participates in job hazard assessments (JHA’s) and complies with all TDW and
customer safety requirements.
