SPEAKING SESSION / WORKSHOP LESSON PLAN

Avoiding misunderstandings outside! A guide for travelers.

- The students will :


COMMUNICATIVE 1. Review and use the set of verbs used for describing expectations (in Unit 5).
OBJECTIVES AND 2. Review and practice different ways of giving suggestions.
LINGUISTIC PURPOSE 3. Learn facts about customs and traditions in other countries.

- Introduction: The T will ask Ss to brainstorm different customs and traditions that exist in
TIMELINE / SESSION Colombia for a set of varied situations such as visiting the “in-laws” house for the 1st time.
MANAGEMENT EXPECTED TIME: 5 – 10 mins.
- Presentation: The T will present the verbs used for talking about expectations making use of the
ideas that were previously brainstormed by the Ss. EXPECTED TIME: 10 mins.

- Practice: The T will ask each S to talk about another custom existing in Colombia using the
vocabulary previously reviewed. During this stage, the Ss are expected to clear all their doubts about
the topic explained here. EXPECTED TIME: 10 – 15 mins.

- Production: The Ss will now gather in groups and they will be assigned a country. The T will
deliver each couple a document with a list of traditions and customs that exist over that country. Each
couple will have to deliver a short and creative presentation using the info given.
EXPECTED TIME: 40 – 50 mins.

- Conclusion: The T will provide feedback considering what he observed during the presentations.
After that, the class will be finished. EXPECTED TIME: 10 mins.

- Recycled paper (for printed handouts).

- Computer (to display images that S might consider necessary).
