Background: What: An instruction will be provided for a variety of reasons across content
areas using graphic organizers.
Why: There is a performance gap for students when writing in content areas
such as math, social studies, science, and art.
When: The instruction will occur November 5, 2018 through November 12,
2018.
Who: Third grade students, 24 girls and 19 boys
Where: Cobb County Elementary School
How: Students will participate in whole group instruction, partner activities
and individual class work assignments involving both paper pencil and
technology components for instruction.

Purpose Statement:
The purpose of this project is to improve the skills of recording and organizing notes using
graphic organizers in order to create meaningful learning.

Male and female students between the ages of 8 and 9 that attend a
General Cobb County School and are taught by the same instructor. 56% are

Attitude of Learners 93% (40 out of 43) of the students are positive and eager to
learn. They are excited about using a variety of visually appealing
graphic organizers. 7% (3 out of 43) of the students were
indifferent and shrugged their shoulders when asked about how they
felt about learning how to take notes using graphic organizers.
The students are comfortable with completing “fill-in-the-blank”
Skills of Learners that worksheets. They understand information when presented in print,
