Molecule Basics:

The components of this molecule, H2O are

hydrogen and oxygen

The molecule H2O looks like this, made

up of two hydrogen molecules and one
oxygen molecule.

The purpose of this molecule H2O, also

known as water, is to aid us in living,
without H2O, life on earth would not even
exist! The humans body is made up of 75%
water, so therefore life on earth would not
exist. Everything that is alive and growing
needs water to survive.

The molecule H2O has been on earth since

the beginning of time and has not really
changed over the course of years. The only
thing that has changed about water is how
humans have treated it, water has become
very polluted over time. Also no one has
created water, from what we know it has
been here since the beginning of time.
Flint water crisis: The Flint water crisis
occurred in 2014, the unacceptable water
treatment lead to the citizens of Flint to be
revealed to very high levels of lead, which
is deadly and caused many to get
poisoned. This crisis is still going on now,
and things are still not getting much better.
At first, they were giving bottles of water out
to the citizens of Flint, although the state
ended the free water program this year,
which angered many of the citizens of Flint,
Michigan. (2018).

Why clean water is important:

The sanitation of water is very important,
the water that is polluted is not just dirty, it
is also very deadly. “A lack of proper
sanitation services not only breeds disease,
it can rob people of their basic human
dignity.” says Koshland Science Museum.
Without clean water many diseases and
deaths will occur. People need clean water
for, drinking, making food, and hygiene.
Humans use about 20-50 Liters of water a
day, so clean water is very important.
Without clean water every animal on earth
would be diseased and life would be
extinct.

Many waterways all over the world are
impaired and are potentially a health
hazard. Also many waterways are due for a
replacement, but the lack of funding is
making it hard to be able to replace them,
causing a potentional hazard at any
moment. Every state in the United States
has at least one or more impaired
waterway, which is what is being shown on
the photo above.

We contacted Joe St. John from the St.

Clair Shores Waterfront Environmental
Committee and asked him a few questions.
We asked him, why do they believe in
doing these projects, what their main
purpose is, and why they feel strongly
about this. And he said, that he feels that
protecting the environment is a moral issue.
Also he stated that “ the storm drain
stenciling project is meant to raise
awareness that the things that we do
around the house has an affect on Lake St.
Clair.” He also explained the nautical coast
cleanup, he said that the clean up is to give
residents the opportunity to become
involved with helping protect the
environment with an emphasis on Lake St.
Clair.
