Speech comunities is a group of people who speak the same language and share the same
dialects,words,and grammar rules of language standar .

Language is both an individual possesion and socila possesion.

Speech community is hard to define itu , because there is not a true definition of it.

Characterisrics of speech Communities :

1. Group differentation from other speakers .

2. Communities are defined with the relationship with other comunities.

2. Interesting Communities

Is language that used from communies such as like we know people is balinese,batakness,sundaness by
looking their word , accent , intonation and also dialects .

The concept of SC

Is less useful than what is expected and we shoulder be instead referensi to group as any set of
individual for a commonend.

3. Networking and Repertoires

Is show that a person can be part of various speech comunities, some that intersect and some that do
not .

The kinds of networking and Repertoires :

1. Intensitas of various relationship

2. Dense network

3. Multiplex

Open Network: A network which provide open access to its users. Information is often new and of
importance, a (serious) blogger and visitor of blog.

Closed Network: Mostly strong ties. Information that flows in those networks tends to be redundant and
inefficient. Facebook
4. Speech Repertoires

Verbal repertoire: The totality of linguistic forms employed in a socially significant interaction.
(Vocabulary, grammar)

Speech Repertoire: Linguistic Varieties used by a speech community.

It is important to remember that group is a relative concept with respect to speach community. Also that
an individual belongs to various speech communities, at the same time, but he/she will identify with
only one of them. there are many definitions for speech communities which are all different: too simple
or to complex.
