Enduring Idea or Big Idea: Students will use technology to produce a functional button with the
designs which they will create by collaborating as a group.
Student Prior Knowledge: Some students may have more art experience than others. Some students
may have used this specific art program before, some may have never heard of it (explain and
demonstrate basic functions). Some students may excel when working in groups while others find it
more challenging.
Teaching Methods: I will demonstrate how to use the website, lecture what is going to be produced,
explain the function and purpose of the Makey Makey’s, allow the students to explore around as a
group. They will build teamwork skills and discuss the activity at the end answering questions about
the assignment in a group discussion. They will complete their assignment by participating in
cooperative group work.
OBJECTIVES ESSENTIAL CONCEPTS

principles of design, including the meanings or emotions within works of art.

- Did it make it harder or easier?

Final Product Rubrics: Final product rubrics will include content (what they are expressing or
saying), design (composition, art elements and design principles), craft (well executed and/or
constructed) and participation (how well they worked as a group).
Content Did each group member have a say in at least one element of the design?
Design Did they create a piece in relation to their knowledge of art elements, keeping in mind the
difficulty of this process? Did they do something easy because it seemed too hard? Or,
did they push themselves and try something difficult?
Craft Does the design flow? Is there a random break in the composition? Was it well
throughout and executed or does it look like five different projects?
Participation Did every member of each group actively participate and help the group? Or did some
people do all the work?
Differentiation: If there is a student in this class with a visual impairment, since two teachers are
teaching this lesson, either of us can sit with that student and provide them with any additional help, if
needed. For example, if they need help with contribution to the button design, either of us will
personally help him or her achieve his or her goal.

Makey Makey and the buttons it provides. This will give them an idea of all the options a Makey
Makey provides for them; not only can it move the mouse, but it can control specific buttons on the
keyboard as well.
