Layout Drawings Workshop

INtools version 7.0 enables to produce location drawings.

The following types of location layouts are supported:
Location layouts (lowest location hierarchy levels. For example, room
layout drawing that shows the panels in that room)
Panel layout drawings
Rack layout drawings
Scaling – scaling & measurements are user's responsibility. User needs to create the
symbols in the proper relative ratio if desired (ESL does not support scaling at this
point).
All symbols should be created using the Symbol Editor.

This document will guide you, a step-by-step on how to produce such layouts.
Before you start working with any of these reports, open INtools preferences and
select the file location folder for the Symbol Editor:
File Preferences… Symbol Editor File Location, select the path, for

example: 'C:\Symbols'
(Note: New types of SmartPlant reports were added in this version which allow to
customize the layouts, sheet sizes, fonts etc. as for other reports)

Location/Room Layout Drawings

As mentioned before, this type of drawing is most adequate for creation of room
layout drawings or layout drawings where panels are located in. You need to create a
symbol for the room/location and as many symbols that you require for panels (with
different dimensions)
The first stage is to create the room layout symbol.
INtools Open Symbol Editor (Ctrl+E)

General:

To set the sheet size and paper units:

File Sheet Setup… Select 'A4 Tall(210mm x 297mm)'

To set the paper units select :

You can customize the length unit readout in RAD by opening the sheet properties:
right click anywhere on the sheet select 'Properties', select the 'Units' tab, set the

length readout as desired, for example, to set the length to 'mm' with '1' Precision:

Creating the symbols

Draw a rectangle of 125mm x 175mm, as follows:
(Draw the rectangle in the middle of the sheet, make sure you leave some space for
the title block at the bottom of the sheet.)

(the size of the rectangle corresponds to a 5m x 7m room using the scale factor of
40:1)
To create the symbol, press the Symbols toolbar icon . This opens a new toolbar.
Press the 'Create symbol' icon .
The next step is to select the origin point. The origin point should be the lower-left
corner of the sheet.

Panel Layout Drawing

Panel layout drawings cover the internals arrangement of the panel. It covers wiring
object below the panel level such as terminal strips, wiring equipment (WE) & Racks.
Placement of the terminal strips and wiring equipment is done manually while the
program will place the racks automatically.
The following symbols needs to be created:
Panel symbol (in the case of front/rear views, they need to be in one symbol)
Terminal strip and/or wiring equipment symbols
Rack symbol(s)
If racks are residing in the panel, a special object ('start point') in the symbol defines:
from where to start placing racks,
in which direction (flow) and
number of racks that can be placed.
You can have more than one start point in a panel, in case there are two or more
columns /rows of racks.

Creating the symbols

From INtools open the Symbol Editor (Ctrl+E).
Set the sheet size and units as before.
First draw the panel rectangle, an 80mm wide by 180mm height rectangle.
(corresponding to 80cm x 180cm panel)
Save it as a symbol 'Panel_Layout_80x180.sym'
Make sure that the origin point will be the lower-left corner of the sheet (this will
determine where the symbol will appear when you generate the drawing).

Draw a second symbol to represent a terminal strip with 33 terminals in the panel (the
symbol will only contain a rectangle without the terminals).

Preferred origin point is upper-left corner of the rectangle (but can be anywhere).
Save it as 'TS_33Terminals.sym'.

Draw a third symbol for rack as follows: a rectangle 50mm (width) by 15mm (height).
The width of 50mm represents a 19" rack. The origin point should be the upper-left
corner of the rectangle (Origin point is important for the automatic placement of the
rack symbol inside the panel).

Rack Layout Drawing

Rack layout drawings cover the internal arrangement of the rack, slot names, cards or
wiring equipment inside the slots. It also can handle terminal strips or wiring
equipment that is under the rack node, outside the slots.
The following symbols needs to be created:
Rack symbol
Slot symbol
Card or wiring equipment symbol (within slot's)
Terminal strip and/or wiring equipment symbols (external to slot)
This exercise demonstrates the first three items.

Creating the symbols

From INtools open the Symbol Editor (Ctrl+E).
First draw the complete rack, with its internal divisions, then divide it into separate
symbols:

Set the sheet size to 'A4 Wide (297mm x 210mm)' and units as before.
To get the right aspects of size on this sheet size, we can use a different scale factor of
2.5:1 so the paper units of the rack are 200mm x 60mm.

First add the rack's rectangle (centered in the sheet) by drawing a 200mm wide by
60mm height rectangle.
Then draw an additional horizontal line, 10mm above the lower line of the rack:

Add vertical lines, 20mm apart for the slots.

This is the basis for the rack symbol. The cards will show up in the upper part of each
slot whereas the slot name will appear in the lower rectangle of each.
So you need to create two additional rectangles:
Draw two rectangles inside the first slot as follows:

(the red color is for indication/clarity only)

-Intergraph Proprietary & confidential-

- 11 -
Now, you need to create three symbols as follows:

The first symbol is for the rack, excluding the last two rectangles. You can select all
the graphics (Ctrl+A) and while pressing the 'Ctrl' key, deselect the two last
rectangles.
Name the symbol as "19in_RackLayout.sym".
The origin point must be the lower-left corner of the sheet.

Create a second symbol for the card by selecting the upper rectangle (of the extra
two). The origin point must be the upper-left corner of the rectangle.

Name the symbol as "Rack_Card.sym".

Create a third symbol for the slot name by selecting the lower rectangle.
Name the symbol as "Slot_Name.sym".
You can place the origin anywhere on that symbol.

Defining the symbols

Note: The slot symbol should be placed (by drag and drop) into the rack layout
symbol, therefore it needs to be created first.

From the 'Window' menu, switch to 'Slot_Name.sym'

Expand the symbol (Fit command) and zoom-in on the symbol.

Assign Entity Type

To establish the entity type, select "Assign Entity Type…' command on the
'Actions' menu (or click icon on the 'Actions' toolbar). On the dialog,

Place Start Point

Assuming the rack has 10 slots, the next stage is to add a start point, (similar
to what was done in the panel layout). The start point should be placed very
close to the upper left corner of the first slot. The slots should be filled from
left to right direction. The displacement is 20mm.
From the 'Actions' toolbar, press the 'Place Starting Point' icon
A 'Starting Points' ribbon bar will appear. Set its properties as follows:
Placement order = Left to Right
Symbol displacement = 20 mm
Symbols per row/column = 10

Then, place the start point in the appropriate place in the symbol.

Save the symbol (do not close it yet).

Open the file browser by clicking on the icon.

Find the 'Slot_Name.sym' symbol Drag and drop it into the rack layout

symbol, exactly where you drew it in the first place (under the first slot).

Repeat this action for the rest of nine slots.

Note: each symbol that is dragged into the rack gets an internal sequence
which will correspond to the actual slots.
