The reflective and critical practice course has helped me think outside the box,

brainstorm and also, I have been able to convey different emotion and thoughts to situations. As

the classes go by, I try to record my observations and feelings to reflect on personal experiences

which are connected to the class readings to find common ground.

The study by Thompson states that “the abuse and misuse of power is, of course, also a

major in discrimination and oppression which, in turn, can and surely do act as barriers to

learning and professional development” (Thompson, 2011). An example pertaining this quote is

found at the workplace between a manager and an employee. The employee would do anything

in order not to get fired. In my own opinion, I think managers and their employees should have a

sense of work relationship where they can agree and disagree on situations without

consequences.

Learning is a huge part of success. I have learned so many things about myself one being

that I learn better in small groups. According to an article, participating in group activities is

beneficial to one’s learning outcome (Mitchell, T., Richard, F., Battistoni, R., Rost-Banik, C.,

Netz, R., & Zakoske, C, 2015). The research regarding the statement is accurate because I learn

more when I am in a group.

The idea of a class circle and paired group activity at the start of class strikes me the

most. I find that idea brilliant because it allows everyone to open up, have a laugh and be at ease

before lectures start. The class circle gets me engaged and alert. I always find myself paying

attention to anything going on during class.

The kind of feelings that have generated during classes has been positive. During classes,

I feel calm and comfortable. When we started talking about Serena Williams, I could relate to

some of her experiences based on the fact that I am a woman of color. I could feel the pain that

she went through because being a woman of color in America is hard.
