Objectives:
1. SWBAT identify child advocates.
2. SWBAT describe the cause these child advocates are fighting for.
3. SWBAT identify a cause they would like to advocate for.
Intro: Teacher will ask students to brainstorm all of the things we, as US Citizens, have a right to do
–
TW scribe the list on the board –
o Potential answers include: vote, get married, drive cars, buy things
TW share that not everyone has an equal chance to achieve each of the things we’ve listed and
today we are learning about children that have used their voice and taken action to fight
against this.
Students will select which child activist they are inspired by and do a mini research writing
piece on their selected activist.
Independent Once activist has been selected, students will answer the following questions – all materials
Practice -- will be in google classroom for students to access on their own.

When students finish, they will post the issue they’ve identified to advocate for on the board.
SW will share the issue with the class & share why they have selected this issue.
SW create activism posters to stand for their issue/cause.
Closing: SW post their signs & share 1-2 shout outs to classmates for the issue/cause they selected &
the poster they made as activists.
