ASSIGNMENTS
A. GROUP ASSIGNMENT (Report – 30%, Poster Presentation – 20%)

In groups of three (3), you are required to research and prepare a report on “Education Policy
Transformation in ASEAN Countries”. The allocation of topics is based on lottery method. The topic
number will therefore correspond with the group number drawn in class. Any change of topics will
not be entertained except with prior permission of the lecturer.

Language:
Bahasa Malaysia OR English. It is your responsibility to ensure that you follow the correct academic
writing convention. Please ensure you do not submit a paper that has not gone through proof reading
exercise. This is your responsibility, not your lecturer’s.

Writing Format:
Please follow the APA Style. If you do not have the Publication Manual of the American
Psychological Association, (6th ed., 2nd printing). Please go to
https://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/664/01/ as this is one of the best websites that will guide
you on how to use the APA format in writing. All references and citations should be clearly listed.
References should comprise of those within the last 10 years.

Length:
Each group is required to submit a paper comprising of between 7000 – 8000 words.

Content:
The paper should thoroughly discuss how each country in the ASEAN region transformed its
education policy in order to address the findings and demands of PISA/TIMSS. An introduction
section and a conclusion section are compulsory. Each group should include the following sections in
their paper:

1. A discussion on the country report regarding PISA/TIMSS.

2. What efforts have been taken by the country to handle the findings of PISA/TIMSS results. The
discussion will require development of sub-topics/sub-sections.

The distribution of topics and sub-topics is based on each group’s creativity and appropriateness of
topic. However, this must be discussed with the lecturer prior to inclusion.

Presentation:
Each group will also be required to present their report (in the form of poster) to the whole class.
This presentation will be carried out in weeks 13 & 14.

Poster Size: A1 (594 X 841mm OR 23.4 X 33.1in)

Submission:
The submission of report (both hard and soft copies) is due by the end of week 12.

Plagiarism:
Plagiarism is a serious offence in the academic world. Each report will undergo a turn-it-in test. If the
index of similarity report exceeds 30%, the group will be given an ‘F’ grade for the assignment.

Other matters:
Students should constantly consult the lecturer if they are in doubts. The best papers will stand a
chance to be included in the upcoming book on Comparative Education that the lecturer is working
on.

B. FORUM (10%)

The lecturer will upload articles on to MyGuru and students are required to read them and respond to
the issues or questions raised in the forum.
