that deals with the

vironment.

Civil engineering is the practice

of develope infrastructure pro-
jects, like construction
of bridge, highway, and the basic
maintenance of roads, canals,
dams, and buildings.

Nowadays most civil engineers
work in offices making struc-
tural plans that can withstand
changes in our environment in-
cluding earthquakes and hurri-
canes.

They are the people behind all

the largest and beautiful struc-
tures that surround us like
roads and railways, buildings
schools, hospitals and power
and water supply.

Civil engineers conceive, build, su-

pervise, operate, and maintain in-
frastructure projects and sys-
tems in the public and private
sector, including roads, buildings,
airports, tunnels, bridges, and
systems for water.

Colombia University will
find some vocabulary relat-

gineering works for realiza-
tion of projects.
They will find some im-
portant aspects like the
type of machines,
the different functions
they have according to the
work that will be carried
out and the most common
that are used in the works.

 Justification

The main objective about this maga-

zine is provide to civil engineering
students a dynamic and interactive
learning strategy where they will
learn an English vocabulary to im-
prove and complement their academ-
ic performance.

This topic was chosen due to the importance of knowing all the
vocabulary according to machinery, their functions and in which
works the most appropriate one should be used, because to civ-
il engineers is essential to know what kind of machines use dur-
ing projects construction because those machines could af-
fect their carrying out.
