Comment on The Business Letter

Based on the complaint letter shown on the previous page, there are several
mistakes that we have discovered. The first mistake that we noticed, there is no sender’s
name on top of the sender’s address. Next, the sender’s address and the date are written
on the left side. This is supposed to be written correctly on the right side of the letter. We
are also spotted that there is no subject line after the salutation.

On the body of letter, we found out that there are a few spelling mistakes that have
been detected. Besides, the author uses an aggressive tone to express his frustration on
the service and the quality of the food. The author also does not include any suggestion
to improve the restaurant’s services.

In conclusion, the author has a poor skill of writing a complaint letter that can be
improved in future.

Dear Sir,

Subject: Complaint Against Five Heart Restaurant’s Services.

I wish to express a complaint against the service that was rendered to me by your staff
on 1st August 2009. On the previously mentioned date, I had a meal at your restaurant,
Five Hearts Restaurant.

As I arrived at your restaurant, I had experienced an unpleasant service from your staff
because there is no waiter approached me for about ten minutes. When the waiter finally
approached me, he showed a severe lack of interest that he had to take my order for
three times but still brought me the wrong order. This shows that the waiter portrayed an
unprofessionally bad attitude towards the customers.

I would also like to mention on the time taken on the preparation of the food as it took
nearly an hour for my food to be fully prepared. In addition, the food’s quality was below
standard which is tasteless and quite cold. This had effect my health condition because I
had a very bad diarrhea for two days which resulted from eating at your restaurant.

To improve your restaurant’s service, I recommend that your restaurant should provide
more training to your staffs on how to entertain customers. Besides, your restaurant could
also shorten the time taken on the preparation of the food by having a proper system in
preparing the food and your restaurant should employ more staffs in the kitchen area. In
order to improve your food’s quality, your restaurant should make a monthly health
inspection to monitor the quality of the food.

I hope your restaurant will take an appropriate action on these matters to ensure that this
event will not happen again in the future.
