G'day again folks and welcome
to the latest and greatest
newspaper in Bali for yet
another week. The past week
has been a ripper with the
kidneys recuperating well and
the guts reducing in size just
that little bit which may be due
to the new morning swimming
routine. It's a funny thing up
here as most of us simply don't
do anything except socialize
way too much and eat all the
wrong things when choosing
from a menu. Good fun isn't it.
Each morning I have
been dragging myself out of
the sack and making my way to
the beach for a 20 minute
splash around in the hope of
losing a few pounds ready for
the summer rush of friends that
will arrive and be ready to go
hard for their annual holiday.
At Kuta beach, as lovely
as it is, I didn't realize just how
dangerous and strong the rips
are. I guess because the reef is
what makes the area so
desirable to the surfers that
have been coming here for
many years. Now, I'm a fairly
strong swimmer so have never
had a problem at the beach
(touch wood) however, during
the week I did get an email from
a fellow Australian who was up
here on holidays. His email is

Three days ago, my partner and I
decided to go to the beach for a
swim, second time since we have
been in Bali, as I hardly ever go to
the beach I didn't recognize the
red flags, just thought great quiet
spot to swim etc. Within about 5
mins the waves were getting
pretty big and strong so I said to
my partner we better get back in
closer to shore, she managed to
swim back, but within seconds I
was swept out a good 50m, I was
getting pounded by these huge
waves and I thought this is it I'm
going to die, as I kept thinking shit
there is no one here to help me,
my partner reckons she could no
longer see my head due to the
huge waves and knows I'm not
the best swimmer in the world,
she was screaming for help, one
of the surf rescue guys was a fair
bit away but saw she needed
help, and came sprinting down
the beach, flew into the water, I
was just about gone, I had no
energy left and was think shit I'm
going to drown, god I hope it's
painless, then I hear Man nik (not
sure on the spelling) don't panic I
am going to save you, I was really
panicking as he came close I
thought wow I'm not going to die, I
just thought he was a surfer, I said
oh thank you, you have saved my
life, he quickly said hey this is just
my job, this is what I do, he then
put me on his board asked my
name etc, got me calm and
explained, that there will be a guy
coming on another big board to
rescue me and that we better
paddle away for here as waves
are too big, my partner was on the
beach very distraught and crying
not knowing if I had been saved as
she could not see me, there was
another guard with her telling her
not to panic that those two guys

Manuscript Rajapurana
Explains the origin of
Besakih Temple. The name of
Besakih temple of Bali has probably
penetrating beyond tourism
bibliography and the world Hindu
society. But when and how Besakih
temple was first constructed, no one
known exactly. Many source claim to
know and describe the temple
existence in the vague of the formal
record from the kingdom. It is a pity
that kings as far as back to 9th
century did not leave a systematic
record on the temple. To mention one
of the manuscript that claim to know
and explain about Besakih temple of
Bali is Rajapurana.
The short account is as
follows : A priest named Sang
Markandeya did a hermitage at
Dieng hill in central java. Due to the
trouble given by invisible being then
he left Dieng and chose to make his
hermitage at Mt. Raung, east Java.
In his concentration he saw light and
mountain chain from west to east,
with the highest peak, that was
mount Agung. According to the voice
from the sky he can own the area
which north and southern sides of
the mountain range were dense
tropical forest with fertile land. Near
the place of his hermitage at Mount
Raung there was already civilized
village which population is called the
"Aga". After the priest explained
about the new and promising land
the people asked him to head to the
new land and departed with 8.000
members. Arriving at certain place in
Bali the priest asked his people to
clear out the land by cutting big trees,
shrubs, and other plants.
Unfortunately many of the members
meet dangerous situation even
causing death such as scratched by
tiger, killed by big snakes and the
fever. The priest feel that their
coming to Bali would not be success,
and he asked his people to stop

island of Bali is very strongly kept
by magic force. Knowing this the

Bali and climb up to the foot of
Mount Agung. Here the priest
made a hermitage and got the
inspiration to implant the 5 metals
or called "Panca Datu". Then this
place is known as Besakih. Further
the manuscript describes that a
clan of Bali called Manik Angkeran
as the family that hold the right as
the cleaner and staff for the temple
of Besakih in Bali. The clan of
Manik Angkeran which is not clear
now in Bali whether it can be
grouped as Brahmana, or
Kesatrya or others. It is said that
the name of Besakih come from
Basukih, a serpent live in a cave on
the foot of Mt. Agung.
A priest from Java, Empu
Sidhimantra was in good relation
with the serpent, the priest visited
her every full moon. One upon a
time the priest was sick, and he
asked her son to come to Bali
meeting the serpent which was
said "Naga Basukih". The son of
priest name is Manik Angkeran a
hard gambler, and so often
neglecting his duty. After a brief
advise of religious ethic the priest

Sidimantra got omen on his long
time un-returned son, and
headed to Bali meeting the
serpent. He got the explanation
of what was happened. The
priest recovered the tail of the
serpent without trace of injury,
and bring his son to alive again.
At last the priest give the serpent
his son as the person to look
after the temple and have the
right to conduct the ceremony at
Besakih.
The priest then return to
Java, and in order his son can
not leave Bali to Java he stroke
his cane to form the barrier. This
buries is a narrow sea called
"Segara rupet" of Bali strait. This
is the story mentioned on the
manuscript, which not conform
with the fact of history and some
events mentioned are beyond
our reason to understand. There
are many manuscript which have
the same character with
Rajapurana, and for Balinese it is
never questioned. For historians
indeed this story is far from
constructive information on the
cultural history of Bali.

before RBS could call in its debts
and administration proceedings

NESV, headed by Red Sox
owner John W Henry, has already
indicated that it would look to
renegotiate a deal or walk away
from the Anfield club if
administration happened.
Either way, Hicks and
Gillett stand to lose out financially
on a club they bought in February
2007 for 218.9 million pounds and
have since burdened with debt.
RBS is unlikely to want
Liverpool to enter into
administration as the process
would jeopardise it recouping the
money owed and a new deadline

NRL ends Farah-Young race probe
The NRL has decided there is
insufficient evidence to
pursue with investigations
into whether St George
Illawarra's Dean Young racially
vilified Wests Tigers captain
Robbie Farah in last month's
preliminary final.
The same decision was
reached by the match review
committee in the days following
the final on September 25, but
the NRL opted to look into the
incident further as part of its push
to stamp out racism in the game.
Farah alleged during the
match that a racial slur had been
made, however he and the Tigers
club refused to make a formal
complaint in relation to the matter
both on and off the field.

at every aspect of this issue and
