November 12, 2018

Dear Centura Health,

My name is Larissa Gorman and I am writing in regards to the new graduate registered nursing
residency position. I currently am a fourth semester student at the University Of Arizona,
College of Nursing and will be graduating in December of this current year, 2018.

Throughout the course of my clinical rotations, I have been able to work in several health care
settings within the Tucson area, performing medical/surgical, critical care, and psych rotations.
Through learning and studying under a plethora of nurses, I have been given the opportunity to
learn valuable professional skills, such as integrating and synthesizing information, applying the
nursing process to patient care, and mastering performance of proficient assessments. These
experiences have allowed me to apply proven communication, critical thinking skills and
interpersonal skills when working with patients and other health care providers which I hope to
utilize in my position as a Registered Nurse.

This summer, I participated in an externship program at the Southern Arizona Veteran’s

Hospital, titled the Valor Program in which I completed 400 hours. As an extern, I worked under
a nurse applying skills such as performing in rounds, communicating with providers, organizing
tasks, assessing and charting, and performing total patient care under the direct supervision of an
experienced registered nurse. All of these experiences and application of practices, allowing me
to hone in on my skills and increase my confidence. I worked on the hospice unit, and was able
to advance my interpersonal communication skills with patients and family members. Overall, I
was able to learn the importance of advocating for patients, assessing patients based on
nonverbal cues, and demonstrating compassion.

I currently work at the Southern Arizona Veteran’s Hospital as a nursing assistant. As a nursing
assistant I have learned how to cooperate with nursing professionals, practice hands on patient
care, and collaborate in patient care and outcomes. In addition, I have learned the importance of
patient safety and elimination of hazards as well as balancing my time to complete care for
patients. I practice meticulous care, believing that attention to details is an essential component.

I completed my fourth semester preceptorship on the acute cardiac surgical floor. I worked with
about four patients post open heart surgeries post op day 3. Through, this I was able to learn and
develop proficient skills and communicate with interdisciplinary professionals.

Because of my experiences both within and outside of school, I feel I would be an excellent fit as
a registered nurse. I am very interested in beginning my nursing career at a facility like this that
is so dedicated to meticulous and comprehensive patient care.

Sincerely,
Larissa Gorman
