Important Dates
Last date for submission of Application Forms: the application can be submitted anytime till
the month of May for the Autumn Semester (July - November) and till the month of November
for the Spring Semester (January - April)
Date of Admission presentation and interview at IDC, IIT Bombay will be held during the
months of June and December every year.
The next date for registration and commencement of Ph D programme is the beginning of
next semester - either in July end or beginning of January.
The following are the steps for admission to the Ph D programme in Design:
For admissions,

You'll need to have the requisite qualifications and

Pass the All India Common Entrance Examination for Design (CEED), conducted in many parts
of the country (only graduate students need to pass CEED and not post graduate students)

Apply for Ph D using Application Form and qualify through the IDC Admission Test and
Interview
Admission:
The process of admission will be as follows:
Candidates need to attend an admission test and interview (held during the month of June or
December - the exact dates will be announced later) at IDC, IIT Bombay that will judge the
suitability of the candidate for the PhD. Program.
Course Structures:
These are the highlights of the course structure:
In the first year first semester, the student will do the course "Design Research Methodologies".
In the first semester, the student will do two electives in the chosen area of specialization. One
elective will be from IDC and the other from outside departments. Each student in consultation
with his faculty advisor will finalize the elective courses independently.
In the first and second semesters, the student will do a minor project. This project will have a
research orientation or a combination of design orientation and research orientation. It is
expected that the output of the minor project will be published as one paper in a juried
conference or journal.
In the IInd semester (summer), the student will publish his work in the form of a monograph.

common with the existing M.Des Programme.
