Reliability means that scores from an instrument are stable and consistent.

Scores should be
nearly the same when researchers administer the instrument multiple times at different times.
Also, scores need to be consistent. When an individual answers certain questions one way, the
individual should consistently answer closely related questions in the same way.

Types of Reliability:
There are four general types of reliability.

1. Interrater or Inter-observer Reliability: Measures the degree to which different


observers give consistent estimates of the same persons.
2. Test Retest Reliability: Measures the consistency of measurement on two separate
occasions.
3. Parallel Forms Reliability: Measures the consistency of results of two parallel forms of
same test constructed in the same way.
4. Internal consistency Reliability: Measures the consistency of results across items within
a test.
