Content Area: Science Grade Level(s): 2nd Content Standard Addressed: S2L1. Obtain, evaluate, and communicate information about the life cycles of different living organisms. a. Ask questions to determine the sequence of the life cycle of common animals in your area: a mammal such as a cat, dog or classroom pet, a bird such as a chicken, an amphibian such as a frog, and an insect such as a butterfly
Technology Standard Addressed:
Understand the fundamental concepts of technology operations, demonstrate the ability to choose, use, and troubleshoot current technologies and are able to transfer their knowledge to explore emerging technologies.
Selected Technology Tool:
☒ Movie (list application): iMovie ☐ Audio (list application): ☐ Other: (list) URL(s) to support the lesson (if applicable): N/A
I will use a UDL lens when analyzing the data I receive from this assessment in order to identify the strengths, needs, and interests of individual students across the three learning networks (recognition, action and expression, and engagement) and combine them into a UDL group profile.
Lesson idea implementation:
Prior to teaching the lesson, the teacher will need to use the iMovie APP to create a video. After the video is created, the lesson will begin. The teacher will begin by asking the students about any pets they may have at home. The teacher will ask the students if they had their pet from when it was a baby and what happened when their pet got older. This will get the students to connect their prior knowledge on their own pets’ life cycle, to the life cycle of animals in general. The teacher will then introduce the lesson on life cycles and the importance it has on our lives. The teacher will also introduce the content and technology standards they will be covering this unit. Next, the teacher give a brief overview of life cycles. Students need a brief overview on what they are watching so they have some knowledge to go off of. The students will be at individual computers and will listen and watch the video on their own. This way, they can go at their own pace and watch sections over that they need to in order to gain the most information. After the video is finished, the class will come together and discuss the video. The discussion will be led by the students and the teacher will just ask as a facilitator. After they finish discussing, the students will use the Smart Board to play some interactive games. Feedback will be provided based on the knowledge they show when they go up to the board to play the game and answer questions. Spring 2018_SJB MultiMedia Tools Importance of technology: For this lesson, I created a 2 minute clip about the life cycles of different common animals that live in our community. In the video, I included a short clip that includes an overview of the material we will be learning in this lesson. Without technology, I would not have been able to show the video which means I would have to find a different way to introduce the topic which might not have been as fun or engaging for the students. Technology is a great tool to incorporate into this lesson. It keeps the students engaged and wanting to learn and participate more. Additionally, without technology I would not have been able to use the Smart Board with the students to play interactive games. The interactive games are used through the SMART Notebook software.

Internet Safety and Student Privacy:
I will review my district’s Internet Safety and Student Privacy policies to ensure that nothing the students are doing or anything included in the project is violating any rules or policies. I will be monitoring the students computers at school and will send notes home to parents to work with their children if they are asked to do anything outside of school. I will speak to parents/administrators before allowing the students to complete a project online to let them know what is going on and what I will do to ensure policies are followed and the students information remains confidential. Reflective Practice: I feel that incorporating the iMovie video is an excellent way to impact student learning because it gets the students engaged. This video is an introductory activity to our life cycle unit. In order to extend the lesson, I am including the interactive games on the Smart Board that allow the students to put animals in the order their lives take place.
