Week # 2

(Tuesday October 30th – Monday November 05th)

Dear students.

Culture and Regional Economy of Asia.

I have been inviting you to do a complete exploration of links and tools that we have to development
correctly this course. This is very important because you can download files, structure a study plan and
start working with your team on the collaborative project.

In relation with platform I remind you the importance to access frequently. There are (140) participants
however around 10% are not commonly users, if you have any concern about your access or issues related
let me know.

Remember it is mandatory that you send to me an email with your member’s group (minimum 4 –
maximum 5), all participants must be listed in this course. It is important that all students really work
committed in each group.

Complete instruction file is in week # 1, to present first stage you must develop requirements 1 and 2. It
will be available (November 9th - 12th). You are going to choose a communications leader who is responsible
for uploading the project in the corresponding link.

STAGE 1 INSTRUCTIONS - Week 3 (09TH – 12TH November).

Initially students should select a group of 3 countries from Asian continent, considering the following
guidelines:

Country A - Select a single country, between China, Japan or India (Choose one).

Country B - Select a country, between Asian tigers and small dragons (Choose one).

Country C - Select a country, free choice in any region of the continent.

Requirements:

1. With these (3) countries already defined, each group should make a pre-selection matrix (Excel), where
each country registers the most recent figures for each of the following macroeconomic variables: - Total
GDP - Inflation - Unemployment rate - Human Development Index (HDI) - Doing Business (regulations for
doing business) - Exchange Rate (Colombian pesos) - International reserves - External Debt / GDP (External
Debt over GDP).

2. Perform an analysis of the data obtained in the matrix, where the importance of each variable is
evidenced with solid arguments. According to the group's criteria, select the country with the best and
most competitive macroeconomic figures presented (justify your choice) present this information in a
word file.

Concerning the document extension, a minimum and maximum number of pages (12 - 20) is proposed for
the whole project separate annexes and references, however, the number may be relatively more
extensive, which does not represent any problem if the content include valuable information.

I would like to point out that citation and references topic, it is essential doing with updated APA standard.
It is not permissible to copy URL links from web pages as references.

In this second week as you know there is no qualifiable activity, so the people who are access to course
should be ready to start. Remember every Tuesday (beginning of academic scheme) by email and
announcements I will be sending recommendations and remarks.
