About Information Technology Institute

In 1993, the Egyptian Cabinet - Information and Decision Support Center (IDSC)
established the Information Technology Institute (ITI). ITI is a nonprofit National
Center providing specialized software application development programs for elite fresh
graduates. It also offers professional training programs through various IT courses for
the government, ministries and local decision support centers all over Egypt.

As its role has grown from an IT training function to a world-class training institute,
The ITI aims to expand market reach through alliance and joint programs with
government and business communities locally, regionally, and internationally.

In March 20th 1999, ITI was awarded ISO 9001 by BSI Co. (accredited by the Dutch
Council for Certification).
In April 2005, Information Technology Institute dependency has been transferred to the
Ministry of Communications and Information Technology.

ITI has the following branches:

 Alexandria Branch, 1996.
 Mansoura Branch 2007.
 Assiut Branch 2007.

In 2002, ITI developed a Franchise agreement with Information Technology


Incorporation (ITInc.), giving them the right to perform the ITI 9-month program.

ITI has been always at the forefront of international exposure. Its reputation as a center
of excellence has made it sought by organizations worldwide looking for partnerships
with Egyptian academic and training institutions. Throughout its history, ITI has
collaborated with a number of international universities, of the most significant

Introduction
It is a widely accepted fact that the Internet and the World Wide Web are having a
profound impact on the way we live and work today.

The impact goes far beyond a change in technology in industrial or commercial


computer systems as it affects the nature of our lives for some considerable time to
come.

The program is designed to arm computing or non-computing graduates with the


essential advanced skills and knowledge that enables them to contribute to the realm of
information engineering and professional software development.

Information Technology Institute has cooperated with the University of Nottingham to


deliver M.Sc. degree in the field of Information Technology and the University of
Paderborn to deliver M.Sc. in Mechatronics.

Students have the choice to obtain the ITI 9-month Diploma only or extend their period
of study and pursue one of the above mentioned postgraduate degrees. This can be done
as follows:
 Continue for at most 3 months and pursue:
Master of Science in Information Technology from the University of
Nottingham. (Nottingham University - England).

 Continue for 12 months and pursue:


Master of Engineering in applied Mechatronics from the University of the
Paderborn. (Paderborn University-Germany).

Program Structure
The 9-Month academic calendar is composed of foundation, focus and performance
modules as follows.

Students seeking the ITI Diploma/M.Sc. should attend 5 -full time- days a week.
Saturday and Fridays comprise the weekends though sometimes students are asked to
work on Saturdays when necessary.

Foundation Module
This module provides the basic required theoretical background in the field of
Information Technology as well as thorough practical training in certain specialized
areas like Operating Systems, Object Oriented concepts, and Database technologies.
Foundation module corresponds to a total of about 396 hours and 1500 points.
To be promoted to the focus module, student should acquire at least 1050 points (70 %)
of the total points for the foundation module.
Students who acquire less than 1050 points will be disqualified from the program.

Focus Module
This module aims to deliver the latest in IT industry to ITI students and arming them
with the required diverse practical experience that will help them drive social, economic
and cultural development of their country and the Arab world.
Focus module corresponds to a total of about 480 hours and 2500 points.

Performance Module
All students undertake a major project as a part of the Diploma/M.Sc. program.
The aim of the project is to give the student an opportunity to practice a substantial
piece of work by applying the appropriate concepts, methodologies and techniques that
they learned during the focus module and comprises 1000 points.

 The number of participants in each project ranges from 2 up to the number


approved by the scientific committee.
 Projects will be examined by a committee of not less than 3 members assigned
by the scientific committee.
 The time of defense normally ranges from 30 to 45 minutes.
 Four copies of the project documentation should be ready by the time of project
defense (one per each member of the committee and one must be saved in the
library).
 If the project was conducted as On Job Training in one of our KTP Program
Partners, Project evaluation would be according to student performance
evaluation at the company.

In addition to the above modules, Students will be encouraged to attend a range of IT
workshops and seminars provided by our partners.

Terms of Acceptance, Procedures and Certificate Awarding


I.Admission
a) Entry Requirements

Candidates who meet the following requirements are eligible for enrollment as ITI
students:
 Hold a Bachelor‟s degree from a recognized University or its professional
equivalent with a minimum average grade of “Good”.
 Graduate of one of the past 3 academic years.
 Male candidates that finished their military service are given 1extra year to
apply to the ITI.
 Male candidates should have their military service exempted or postponed.
 If applying for the M.Sc. program, the student should be able to pay the stated
University fees.
 Minimum TOEFL score for ITI Diploma: 550 (Paper or Computer Based
TOEFL).
 Minimum TOEFL score for M.Sc. Program: 570 (Computer Based TOEFL).
 Successful candidates should pass all screening exams and interviews.

b) Required Documents
Applicants should apply online to the ITI Admission System. Applicants should
submit their official documents to the ITI registrar office. These documents include:
 An original copy of the required academic certificate (showing the graduation
grade, graduation year).
 An original copy of the Birth Certificate.
 A copy of your Egyptian ID / Passport.
 An original copy of the military certificate indicating the applicant‟s military
status.
 Two passport-size photographs.
 All required paper must be delivered not later than the start date of the program.

c) Selection
Applicants screening procedures are comprised of two computer-based exams as
well as an interview. Successful Candidates are required to pass the following written
exams:
 IQ Exam & Computer Aptitude Exam.
 English Exam.

An interview will be conducted for successful applicants. Weights are given for
University, Faculty, Graduation year, Grade. Total applicant score will be computed
based on the sum of all achieved scores. Acceptance is based on competitive basis.

d) Certificate Awarding:

ITI diploma/M.Sc. Certificate will be awarded to students who meet the following
requirements:
 Preliminary and Technical Modules: Achieve at least 60% of each subject‟s
designated mark.
 Performance Module: Achieve at least 75% of the project designated mark.

II. Attendance
Students are required to fulfill at least 60% out of 600 degree (200 degree per each
module of the 9-Month Program) during the program duration according to the
following rules:

Attending lectures is an integral part of student‟s course; students are expected to be


present for all classes in which they are enrolled.

However; in case of illness, accidents, or emergencies, when circumstances permit, the


student should make direct contact with his/her Intake Supervisor, preferably before a
class or an exam takes place. Upon acceptance, Intake Supervisor will manage how to
make up for any missed work.

a) Exams’ Attendance
 Attendance for all students is mandatory for announced exams or other grading
procedures.
 Up to 20% of the exam time delay is permitted and is deducted from the allowed
time of the exam. Any student who arrives later is not allowed to take the exam
and is subject to taking the corrective exam, which means that he/she only has
one chance of taking the exam.
 The student is responsible for providing satisfactory evidence to the Intake
Supervisor within one week of his/her absence to substantiate the reason for
their absence.
 If the Intake Supervisor excused the absence, they must either provide the
student with an opportunity to make up for the exam or any other work missed
or provide a satisfactory alternative that should be completed within 10 calendar
days starting the date of absence.
 The Intake supervisor is under no obligation to provide an opportunity for the
student to make up for any work missed because of an unexcused absence.

III. Coursework Assessment

At the beginning of each course, you will be provided with the following information
by the course lecturer:
 An overview of the course content as well as lecturer office hours.
 Course Assessment.
 Whether the course has to be passed individually or collectively.
 The available set of references and tutorials.
 The available certificates that can be achieved after attending the course.
 Deadline for delivering the required Assignments/Exams.
At the end of the each course, students are asked to deliver their course and instructor
evaluation not later than 2 calendar days after the end of the course otherwise 5 grades
will be deducted per each 1 day delayed after the due date.

a) Setting and Marking of Course Assignments


The lecturer of each course is responsible for adhering to the schedule and carrying
out the following tasks:
 Define the assignments to be completed (may be delivered by mail) and clearly
define how and when to deliver the assignments.
 Provide the required guidelines for completing the assignments.

 State the availability of books, journals, or computer software necessary for its
completion.
 Provide the required feedback, if necessary, to the students concerning their
inquiries about their assignments‟ grades.
 Coursework should be delivered not later than 2 calendar weeks after the course
is over (except for courses that are assessed collectively) otherwise 5 grades will
be deducted per each 1 day delayed after the due date.
 Results will be announced either on the email group or on the white board not
later than 1 week after submitting exams/assignments.
 Coursework that is not submitted will be recorded as “not submitted” and
awarded 0%.

Penalties may vary or totally cancelled only if satisfactory evidence is provided that the
lateness was beyond the control of the student.

 Students who fail to pass the first exam will be eligible to sit for a corrective
exam that is conducted in two days time after the results of the first exam
appear. The Technical Supervisor of the subject arranges this corrective exam.
 If the student fails again in achieving the required passing level, the course will
be graded as „Fail‟.
 The student can sit for a second corrective exam, If he/she fails to pass that exam
the course will be dropped from the graduation certificate. If the student is
applying for M.Sc. Program, he/she will not be eligible to continue their
postgraduate studies.
 Students are always encouraged to sit for certificate exams that are issued by
recognized software houses. Financial support might be offered to students who
pass those exams depending on the price and market value of the certificate.

Corrective Exam Fees


Egyptian Students:
First Exam: LE 100.
Second Exam: LE 250.

IV. Re-admission
Students dropped for academic deficiencies or misconduct can be considered for
readmission following the next procedures:
 A request for readmission should be sent by e-mail to info@iti.net.eg not later
than 3 weeks from the new intake announcement.
 Student Affairs Bureau will coordinate with the Scientific Departments Head for
conducting an interview with the applicant.
 The committee will determine whether to accept or refuse the readmission
request for each applicant. Decision will be final and not subject for appeal.
 You will be notified with the result of the readmission request prior to the start
date at least by one calendar week.
 In case of request acceptance, the applicant might be asked to pay certain fees
that are determined individually for each case.

 Students applying for readmission will be enrolled again in the screening


procedure with the results of the written exams they achieved in the previous
intake screening procedure. If the student requires to be readmitted to the
Technical module directly, he/she‟ll go through whichever selection means run
by the department head.

V. Withdrawal Process
 Registered students, who find it necessary to cancel their registration prior to the
beginning of the program, will need only to inform the Student Affairs Bureau.
 Students who wish to cancel their registration at any time after the beginning the
program, are asked to pay LE 16,000.
 Circumstances reasonably beyond the control of students which caused them to
be unable to attend classes, or become delinquent academically may be
considered. However, documentation to substantiate students‟ claims is required.
 Withdrawal is recorded on the transcript within 1 calendar year from the date of
withdrawal.

VI. Dropping the Program


The Intake Supervisor must inform the Student Affairs Bureau about any student who:

 Fails to pass more than 2 exams and their correctives.


 Does not adhere to ITI regulations.
 Deems improper or prejudicial conduct.

The program will be dropped for any student that is proven to have done one of the
above acts.

VII. Other Procedures and Regulations


a) Computer Lab Rules
 Food and Beverages in labs are absolutely forbidden. Offenders will have their
internet privileges withdrawn from them for at least one week and 5 grades will
be deducted.
 Keep lab doors closed to allow for the air conditioning to function correctly.
 All Notebooks should have anti-virus software installed that scans all potentially
dangerous files. However; this may not stop new viruses so use common sense
when receiving attachments or downloading files. If you don‟t know the source
of the data, be very suspicious! If you have any reason to doubt, contact your lab
leader which will contact any member of the Technical Support Unit (TSU).
 Check your Email frequently and delete unwanted messages. There is a
maximum size for your Inbox; when it is reached, you will not be able to receive
any more mail.
 Please show some consideration for others and keep noise to a minimum.
 Keep the lab as tidy as possible.

b) Student Conduct
 Late arrival to lectures and classes:
If you arrive to a lecture or class late, make every effort to ensure that your
entrance doesn‟t interrupt the lecturer or distract the class.
The lecturer has the right to refuse your admission if you arrive late.
 Breaks:
Three-hour lectures will normally include a 20 minutes break. Please make sure
you return to the lecture room by the stated time.
Attendance may be checked after breaks upon the request of the lecturer with the
same rules and penalties of day attendance.
Lectures are carefully prepared and timed – any delay to the resumption of a
lecture will either cause it to over-run or impair the effectiveness of its delivery.
The lecturer has the right to refuse readmission to those who return late.
 Mobile Phones:
Remember to turn off your mobile phone during lectures otherwise the lecturer
has the right to prohibit you from attending one or more lectures.

c) Audio-recording of Lectures
Some students may wish to take audio-recordings of lectures. This may be
permitted at the lecture‟s discretion but the following points should be considered:
 Audio recording is not considered to be a good method of absorbing material
from teaching sessions and writing notes is strongly recommended.

 Students who wish to record lectures should always ask permission of the
lecturer who has the right to refuse if he or she considers that it will disrupt the
teaching process.

 For students with disabilities who would benefit from audio-recordings of


teaching sessions, he/she should ask the program supervisor and he will make
the appropriate arrangements, in advance of the lecture or lecture series, with the
lecturer concerned.

d) Copying and Plagiarism


Submitted materials that show very close likeness to each other will be treated as
copying and awarded 0% of the designated mark.
Plagiarism will be treated as cheating and awarded 0% of the designated mark.
Any student who will be caught cheating, (either verbally or in any other manner)
will be dismissed from the exam. He/She will be eligible to sit for the corrective
exam

e) Appeals’ Procedures
You may present a written appeal against penalties or concerning the quality of the
program if you wish, first to your Lecturer or to the Intake Supervisor according to
the type of the problem. You must provide sound evidence as to how the penalty is
allegedly unjustified. If the matter is still unresolved you are asked to present a
written appeal to the Scientific Departments Head who should respond to the appeal
as soon as he/she can.

f) Library
ITI is equipped with a library that has the latest in the field of information
technology. It is constantly updated with the newest books, magazines and journals.
Students have access to the library according to the Library rules.
