EQUIVOCAL DEATH ANALYSTS
1. On July 8, 2009, I was in Greene County, Missouri, continuing the death
investigation’ of As a result, I was requested to conduct
an Equivocal Deavu anaiysis, rererence the death’ of
2. An Equivocal Death Analysis is an investigation conducted when a death is
considered suspicious or open to interpretation. The incident itself may
represent two (2) or moze meanings and may represent homicide or suicide
depending on the circumstances. The facts may be vague and misleading or the
death may be coneidezed suspicious based upon what is presented to
investigators. The death(s) may resemble homicides, suicides, accidents or
natural deaths, pending further information of the facts, victimology and the
circumstances Surrounding the event.
3. The Equivecal Death Analysis uses physical evidence, reasoning and logic,
victimology, autopsy reports, medical reports, police reports, crime scene
zeports, forensic laboratory results, behavioral analysis and other
information to gain explicit knowledge of a series of events that comprise @
given crime or incident. These are used by the analyst to form an opinion,
‘as to the most probable sequence of events during the commission of a crime
or an event. An opinion is also given as to what some of these actions most
probably indicate
4. ‘The analyst's opinion is based upon the available evidence and relies
upon his experience, education and training. While all events and segments
may not be explained, those that are explained reflect the most probable

information become available, the analyst will consider its importance andmay revise portions of the event analysis.

Section I: Case Facts:
a. On June 26, 200%. at 2126 houre the Wehster County Sheriff's Department
responded to for the report of a
deceased white female. Upon arrival, deputies met with the occupant,
identified as who was standing on the front porch.
advisea ne nad been in Houston, Missouri, visiting relatives and
upon nis arrival had discovered his wife, , deceased in the
master bedroom, Deputies then instructed nuverack to stay on the front porch
while they conducted a check of the residence.
b. During the check, officers discovered the body of
lying on the bed, inside the master bedroom. During this check, orricers
noticed that prior to entering the master bedroom, the door had been shut and
there were no lights on in the room. According to officers, was
lying on the bed with a handgun in her right hand and covered an a pianket up
to her waist. right hand was lying across her chest, with the
barrel of the handgun facing in a general direction toward head.
Officers also noticed @ considerable amount of blood spatter in the room, on
the walls, bed and headboard. There was also a Wal-Nart bag that contained a
holster and a belt, lying on the bed. The weapon was seized fron
hand and was identified as a Taurus 1357 magnun, serial number KG461/18.
Officers alse discovered what appeared to be a Suicide note and information
pertaining to Roderick's teaching retirement, lying on the counter in the
kitchen.c. Deputies further discovered that according to + when he
returned to his residence, he discovered the front door locked and the
residence secured. According to this was common place, but upon
entering the residence, he noticed dirty dishes in the sink and their small
dog in the kitchen. ‘advised this was not normal, since
kept 2 very clean home and tne dog was usually always at his wife's s1ce.
‘Stated he then noticed the note on the counter, along with the
retirenent paperwork and immediately became concerned. i then went
upstairs and discovered the master bedroom door closed. Upon opening the
door, found his wife lying on the master bed.
d. According to , nothing inside the residence appeared to be
hissing or ransacked and the deputies advised there appeared to be no signs
Of forced entry or burglary to the residence. Deputies also discovered that
fhe weapon used in the death belonged to the victim's mother and that the
Siotim hed visited her mother recently. According to the victim's parents,
knew the location of the weapon, where they stored the weapon, and
naa the opportunity to obtain the weapon without their knowledge.
e. In duly of 2009, sister contacted Webster County
Sheriff Roye Cole ana expressea concerns that her sister's death might not
fave been a suicide, but rather a homicide. According to Sheriff Cole, the
Sister had several unanswered questions and concerns about the initial
investigation and would like the death to be re-investigated. Based upon
this information, the Webster County Sheriff's Department asked the Missouri
State Highway Patrol to conduct an Equivocal Death Analysis.
