(1) Body rating is per B16.34 pressure/temperature ratings, except for 2” (50 mm) full port and 3” (80 mm)
regular port, which are limited to 1200 psi (82.7 bar) at 100ºF (38ºC), 3” (80 mm) and larger full port and
4” (100 mm) and larger regular port are rated Class 300 only. Shutoff pressure for valves is limited to the
differential pressures as shown in the graphs .
(2) For full B16.34 ratings and/or shutoff against full B16.34 differential pressures consult the factory.

DESIGN FEATURES:
l Off-center split-body design allows the use of
STANDARD advanced spiral-wound gaskets.
LIVE-LOADED
l Maximum temperature for CF8M 1,000°F (538°C),
PACKING for WCB 800°F (426°C).
ASSEMBLY l Full port ensures large capacity and reduces the
risk of clogging when handling solids or slurries.
l Wall thickness complies with ASME B16.34 and BS
5351 for 2–12” ASME 150 and 300 full port only.
l Stem bearing reduces side thrust effect on
packing and prevents stem wobbling.
“M SEAT” Shown l Integral seat locking option does not require
additional parts or special tools.
l Scraper seats standard.
l Ball and seats lapped for optimum performance
and tight shutoff.
l Low emission stem seal.
l Blowout-proof stem.
l Two-piece flanged gland. Live-loaded as standard.
l All valves with graphite packing and backup seal
are inherently fire safe.
l Can be used for manual throttling applications.
(For automation contact Velan Engineering.)
l Manual operation with handle for 2–4”
(50 –100  mm) FP and 3–6” (80–150  mm) RP.
6” (150  mm) FP, 8” (200  mm) RP and larger
require gear or actuator. Gear or pneumatic
actuator available.
l Tightness rates: Allowable leakage rate at full
∆P: ASME/FCI 70-2 Class V.
Tighter shutoff available upon request.
l Oversized ball to stem connection provides:
- No deformation of the stem slot in the ball.
- Better throttling control performance.
- Less motion loss and wear in automatic on-off
applications.

DESIGN FEATURES:
l Bi-directional sealing with preferred direction
as shown ( ).
l Advanced HVOF or Plasma Spray
custom trim coating technology
with hardness in excess of 70 RC.
l Superior ball/seat finish to 2–4 RMS.
l Unique ball/seat spring-loading technology to
assure tight shutoff at low differential pressures
and / or when fines are present.
l Complete ball/seat set individually vacuum
tested to verify sealing integrity.
SEATING
l Robust blowout-proof stem.
l Low emission stem seal with advanced
live-loaded packing arrangement.
l Stem bearing reduces side thrust effect on
packing and prevents stem wobbling.
l Stellited thrust washers absorb stem loading
moments and reduce valve operational torque.
l Allowable leakage at full ∆P: MSS-SP-61.
DOWNSTREAM SEAT UPSTREAM SEAT Tighter shutoff available upon request.
l Unique “Flat Washer” load ring arrangement l All valves are inherently fire safe.

for tight shutoff and smooth operation under all l Designed to ASME B16.34.
conditions. l Flow relief is incorporated into both the upstream
and downstream ball lips increasing the area
STEM & THRUST WASHER exposed to flow and thus reducing erosion
due to velocity upon initial valve opening.
l Downstream and upstream body-seat
l Fully guided stem.
lapped contact.
l Live-loaded packing gland.
l Internal thrust washer
prevents galling, reduces
torque, and provides
secondary stem seal.

TYPE L
High-Temperature
Metal-Seated Ball Valves
The Velan Type L High-Temperature Metal-Seated
Ball Valve is well suited for a variety of demanding
services where high-temperature and abrasive
solids are present.

DESIGN FEATURES:
l Unique, single-seat ball valve design. The Velan
single-seat ball valve has a flat spring set acting
through a hardfaced bearing against the bottom
ball shaft which provides sufficient initial ball-seat
load for valve tightness, even at low ∆P.
l The design provides freedom for thermal
expansion of the ball without jamming, even at
extreme temperatures.
l Proven in qualification tests and field operation
to be solids–proof, even for the toughest
applications on slurry service with solids.
l Tightness rates: Allowable leakage rate at full
Sealing ∆P: ASME/ FCI 70-2 Class V. Tighter shutoff

The Securaseal Type P offers a unique flow-

thru design as an improved alternative to typical
jacketed valve designs. This design has proven
effective in high temperature polymer and similar
applications requiring a jacket system to control
process flow temperatures.

DESIGN FEATURES:
l Integral Flow-Thru Jacket Design.
(Multipassage 360º uniform heat transfer).
l The Securaseal Type P Valve is custom designed
to incorporate a flow passage internal to the
valve. The passageways are designed to be as
close to the process flow as possible.
High performance severe service valve design
based integrating many advanced features of
Securaseal Type N including:
l Bi-directional sealing with preferred direction
as shown ( ).
l Oversized blowout-proof stem.
l Heavy duty precision machined actuator bracket
ensures accurate stem alignment.
l Advanced live-loaded stem packing
arrangement standard.
l Unique ball/seat spring-loading technology.
l Complete ball/seat set individually vacuum
tested to verify sealing integrity.
l Advanced HVOF or Plasma Spray custom trim
