PREPARATION OUTLINE
PERSUASIVE SPEECH
Central Idea : You should pledge as an organ donor because the needs
of organ is critical, can save many lives and give benefits to
both donor and recipient.
Introduction
I. From a scene from a drama, there was a mom of a patient who is waiting for a
kidney and it was a gloomy day and the rain pouring like there is no tomorrow.
II. Then, the mom mumbled “There must be car accidents because it is raining hard.
By any chance, will there be anyone who can transplant a kidney to my son
among the dead?”.
III. It is actually a thought of a mom who begging if there is a miracle in saving his
son’s life. Showing how desperate she was.
IV. Even this scene happened in drama but it is possible this thought may have to
others who are waiting for organ to save their lives.
V. Surprisingly, statistics tells us that Malaysia’s organ and tissue donation rate
stood at 1.0 donations per million populations in 2015. This is actually low in
global context as Spain has 34.35 donations per million populations, the United
States has 25.49, and Singapore has 5.00 as reported by Malay mail.
VI. Feeling sorry towards them brings me to read for sake to share with the audience.
So today I would like to persuade all of you to pledges as an organ donor as
needs of organ is critical, can save many lives and give benefits to both donor
and recipient.
Body
I. The needs of organ keep increasing and condition is very critical right now
A) It is reported from The Star that Malaysia's organ donation rate among lowest
in the world.
i. In 2016, rate stood at 1 donor per one million populations, which is very
low compared to its demand and only represent 1% of Malaysian
population.
ii. But these numbers not representing a good condition as there are 20000
are still in “waiting list” but doctors can hardly get 30 in a year. So this
clearly show desperate need of organs.
ii. It is reported from New Straits Time, that 7000 have died from accidents
cases each year and assume that only just 10% of them pledges to be a
donor, that’s mean more than 5000 organs available to save more lives.
ii. It takes 3 times a week for 4 hours each session and with more very
complicated rules need to follow such as food & drinks intake may be
inconvenience for them
iii. Cost for dialysis per patients is around RM33000 per year based on
Ministry of Health study but cost for transplant is actually only half of it.
III. More advantages than disadvantages can be gain when we become a donor
i. Even though you have already dies someday, your good deeds bring
new hope for others.
1. Giving of yourself through organ donation means that you can help a
host for your organ who may now be able to live to its fullest life
because of your generosity.
2. Imagine if the person who got your organ and survive is a dad of a
family, he can continue to go back to work and be a devoted
husband and dad for his family.
i. Your “gift of life” towards other not cost you even a cent
2. “It is a gift that anyone can give it has no cost and it can be
tremendously powerful”
Conclusion
I. It is actually heart-warming to think that a life loss can save and improve other’s
lives if we pledge to be a donor.
II. As I keep mentioned before, the needs of organ are very critical right now, and it
is part of our responsibility to help them by pledging as an organ donor.
III. You don’t even need a cent just need some ink of a pen to fill in the form and
register an organ donor.
IV. If there is possible chance for us to be an organ donor, let us pledges to be one
because “If you save one life, it is as though you save the world”
