About the Conference

Switchgear and Controlgear equipment are used in electrical power system. They are playing important role
in power system to protect various power equipment against overload and short-circuit condition in addition
to control switching operation. As the concept of reliability gains predominance, switchgear with longer life
would be preferred so that the need for maintenance is reduced. This leads to serious outlook on the design
and testing of the Switchgear & Controlgear equipment. The testing is absolutely necessary to ensure quality
as well as reliability of the switchgear and selection of suitable switchgear for the system.

This program will focus on Recent trends, Design requirements, Manufacturer process, Testing requirements
as per latest National and International standards, Operation and maintenance and Applications.

Conference Objective
The objective of the Conference is to disseminate the testing knowledge, experience and concerns on the
topics related to design, operation, testing and maintenance of Switchgear and Controlgear equipment. This
conference also provides forum for open discussions and exchange of information on the latest technology to
come out with positive and concrete recommendations on the topics mentioned above. It is necessary and
important for the professionals and engineers to upgrade the latest knowledge and innovations so as to keep
the pace with the advancement taking place in the Switchgear and Controlgear industries. The accentuation
and knowledge of professional and engineers will ensure better performance of Switchgear and Controlgear
and the power system.

CPRI Profile
Central Power Research Institute (CPRI) set up in 1960 by Government of India, functions as a National
organization for applied research in power sector and also serves as an independent authority for testing and
certification of electrical power equipment. The Institute has several research laboratories and testing
facilities engaged in different specialized fields. The laboratories are accredited as per ISO 17025 standards.
CPRI is a member of STL (Short circuit Testing Liaison) of Europe. CPRI also provides consultancy
services on various facets of power sector. CPRI laboratories have modern equipment needed for Power
system simulation, Short circuit testing, Diagnostics of equipment, Materials engineering, Seismic
qualification etc. Over the period, CPRI officers have gained lot of practical knowledge concerning to
testing operational problems of the industry. CPRI is a leading provider of training and continuing education
to utilities, PSUs, across the country for the past 50 years.

CPRI is continually setting new standards in training and continuing education from basic theoretical
information to practical hands-on electrical equipment training. CPRI courses have made a substantial
impact on the level of training and education to India’s electricity utilities, manufacturing companies,
transmission and distribution companies. By upgrading the occupational skills of technical workers, CPRI
training courses have improved the career path of many electrical personal, as well as contributed to an
improvement in electricity efficiency, plant productivity, electrical system reliability and overall
competitiveness of Indian Industry.
