HISTORY

Chichen Itza known as the heart of the Mayan empire. The Kukulcán pyramid rises
with geometric precision in the middle of an esplanade that a thousand years ago
was the political, religious and cultural center of the Mayan empire. Chichén Itzá
means "mouth of the well of the Itza", in allusion to the cenote located to the north
of the pyramid and that was considered a sacred enclave, as well as a source of
fresh water essential for that city of temples and wise astronomers.

¿WHO INVENTED, CREATED, BUILT, AND DISCOVERED?

Chichén Itzá was founded by the Itza, a Mayan-Chontal town in the west.
It is estimated that it was built around 435 and 455 BC. The man who discovered
and looted treasures of Chichen Itza sold valuable pieces of the Sacred Cenote to
an American museum, Edward Herbert Thompson.
WHY IS IMPORTANT?

Chichen Itza is considered the most important city of the Mayan culture and has the
most amazing buildings that are an example of its advanced architectural
development. They are the most extensive and impressive ruins in the Yucatan
Peninsula. Chichen Itza is a magical, mystical and spectacular place that is worth
visiting. Without a doubt, it is the most famous tour or trip for visitors to Cancun or
the Mayan Riviera.

229,742 people, representing an increase of 11.1%, compared to 206,724

increase in visitors. Visit Chichen Itza has two key and precious moments a year.
