1. For someone working in your field, please describe the fantasies versus realities of the job.
(fantasy vs. reality)

-fantasy: no behavior problems, no schedule conflicts, no fights between students


-reality: hectic, personality conflicts, never get a true lunch break, trial and error

2. What is your current educational level? What continuing education and training are required?

-BA in Elementary education 1st- 8th


-General studies in special education pk- 22 years
-phycology major

3. Please describe the typical day to day activities of someone working in your field.
(day-to-day activities)

- reading, writing, science, social studies, and math


- 90 min. each subject
- block and lunch
- time requirements are same are regular education students
- everything is the same except the way things are taught to the AA students

4. How secure are you in your current position? What do you think is the future of your field?

-“I am very secure in my job.”


-always changing
-full/ half/ full inclusion
- changes day to day but always similar

-average is 55,000 to 57,000


- increases by 5,000 every 5 years

-not a lot/ limited growth

-8 hour work day


- 1 hour after school work
- 4 hour work on weekends

8. Did you originally want to be a special education teacher?

-originally wanted to be a nurse


- “my mom was a speech pathologist so I have always been interested in working with special needs kids”
- never have your mind set on something particular

9. What are your favorite aspects of your job?

-love the children


-“what a blessing to get to have children in my class for multiple years so I really get to know them and
see their growth in three years”

10. For the future, how would you make your job more successful?

-keep up with research very frequently


-always make things interesting for the kids
