Family Fun Fair, and our
volunteers extraordinaire
greatly impressed the
radio folks. They asked
GCC to host a giant
PACKING PARTY at GCC!
Operation Christmas
Child packing party on
Saturday, November 13,
and we agreed.
Many of you know of Operation
Christmas Child, a program
sponsored by Franklin Graham’s
Samaritan’s Purse organization.
Each fall, tens of thousands of
Christians in the United States
fill shoe boxes with both fun and
practical items to be distributed
to under-privileged children
throughout the world. GCC has
promoted its own in-house effort for
over ten years.

In just a few weeks, K-LOVE will
begin soliciting listeners to donate
Operation Christmas Child gifts.
During the week of November 7,
gifts from all over the Indianapolis
area will be brought to GCC to be
packed into individual shoe boxes

for children. Our job will be to staff
various “stations” and help people
correctly pack boxes. We also
need to be vigilant about securing
donations through our own families
and contacts.

od is at work here at GCC …
and not just on the weekends!
God impacts lives in more
ways and places than we know, so we
can never share a complete report
of all He’s up to. We can, however,
make note of and celebrate the “God
moments” we do see. Here are a few
samples:
• A few years ago, Charlene Skaggs
took her husband Frank in for a
simple heart cath. Unbeknownst to
them, Karen Steenbergen sensed she
needed to be there with them that
morning, so she went. The procedure
turned out to be more complicated
than expected, and Karen was there
to give Charlene some unexpected
but needed support.
• In 2008, an unusually rainy June
caused significant delays in my
work to fence our backyard. Once
the weather dried up, several GCC
guys—Marty Knies, Matt McGovern,
John Nystrom, and Chris Raker—
volunteered without being asked to
help me mix concrete and set posts.
Those guys helped me knock out in
one evening what would have taken
me days to complete on my own—
and they even brought dinner!
• This week, I got to meet Etta Jo, the
newborn daughter of Joey and Erin
Olson. They told me that just prior to
delivery, they had used their time at
the hospital to follow Shan’s advice
from the latest “Financial Freedom”
message and work on their budget!
• Don and Lois Rainwater have
a terrific garden, and they’ve
been sharing tomatoes, zucchini,
cucumbers, and peaches with their
neighbors (I’m blessed to be one of
them).
• I talked recently with a GCC
member who has experienced God’s
deliverance from a gripping struggle
with lust and pornography. His focus
has shifted, his heart has changed,
and his marriage has improved
dramatically over the course of the
past year.
Not every “act of God” is an
earthquake or tornado. Oftentimes,
He works through the lives of His

Early in my walk with Jesus, I
found it very difficult and often
discouraging when I tried to share
my faith. My friends just weren’t
interested in coming to church
with me. However, my friends were
very eager to join me in the sports
leagues I was involved in at my
church.

programs, we hope to provide an

Funeral Dinner Team
This is a dynamic service team of ladies
that prepare a meal for the grieving
family which is served at church. Be a
part of a team that prepares a side dish
or dessert and drop it off at the church,
or be a part of the team that prepares
the room and serves the meal. New
teams are forming. Call Carol Charley at

Martha Circle WOW
This service group works behind the
scenes serving lunches and dinners
to groups and individuals, makes
crafts for various events, sends care
packages to our military men/women,
and participates in a variety of other
projects. They are a WOW group
because they provide love in the way
of service inside and outside of our
walls that many never see. They meet
the 4th Wednesday of every month for
a short meeting and/or service project
or trip away. For more information,
call Karen Steenbergen at 460-8868 or

Prayer Team
If you are a prayer warrior and love
to spend time praying for others, this
service team is right for you. You do
not have to come to a meeting or ever
leave the house. All you have to do is
pray for our Women’s Ministry daily.
A list of bulleted items will be mailed
to you monthly. All we ask is that you
pray for our women, our events, our
teams, our families, our leaders, and
our church’s impact in our community.
We ask for a one-year commitment.

Day of Blessing
Update & Thanks
Thanks to all of the volunteers who
helped make the Day of Blessing
for Single Moms truly a blessing
from God. We pampered 24 moms
and kids with spa treatments, food,
take-home dinners, car detailing, and
informational sessions. Here are two

Dear Friends,

As a church family, we share the blessing of lives that regularly intersect. Between
intersections, though, our paths take us to many different places, some of them
painful. At times, when we don’t see familiar faces in those places where we hurt, we
keep quiet about those darker segments of the journey. I’d like to invite you to join
us in addressing one such place.

As a part of the natural rhythm of life, we say good-by each year to a number of loved
ones who precede us to the Father. We grieve, of course, but we also find comfort in
happy memories and the friends and family members who surround us to celebrate
and pay respect to the lives of those who leave us.

Not every loss, however, permits such consolation. More often than we’d like,
