10. Chimelong Ocean Kingdom
Location: Hengqin, China
The Chimelong Ocean Kingdom is one of the largest aquariums in the
world and also considered the best in the world. The Chimelong Ocean
Kingdom has a total water volume of 12.9 million gallons which is
equivalent to 48.8 million litres.
The aquarium has about five whale sharks and an abundance of several
other species like manta rays, corals and sharks. Seven different aquatic-
themed areas can be seen in this aquarium,and each of these areas
symbolizes the different parts of the ocean. This aquarium equally holds
a Guinness World Records for the world’s most prominent underwater
viewing dome, the world’s most massive aquarium tank and the largest
window in the world.
9. S.E.A. Aquarium (South East Asia Aquarium)
Location: Sentosa Island, Southern Singapore.
The S.E.A is considered one of the largest aquariums in the world. It was
considered the largest in the world before being overtaken in 2014 by
China’s Chimelong Ocean Kingdom. This aquarium is 36-meter (118 ft)
wide and 8.3-metre (27 ft) tall and has a total water volume of 12 million
gallons which is equivalent to 45 million litres. The aquarium has more
than 100,000 marine animals from over 1000 species, across 50 different
habitats. This aquarium has a unique giant oceanic manta ray in captivity
and has the world’s most extensive collection of Manta Rays.
8. Georgia Aquarium (6,3 million gallons)
Location: Atlanta, USA
The Georgia Aquarium is the largest aquarium in the United States and
until 2012, was the largest aquarium in the world when it opened in 2005.
The Georgia Aquarium is the only institution outside of Asia to house
whale sharks. It has a total water volume of approximately 10 million
gallons of water. The aquarium is home to over 10,000 marine animals
from about 500 species. Beluga whales, bottle nose dolphins, and manta
rays are the Aquarium’s unusual specimens. The aquarium also has five
galleries namely; Tropical Diver, Ocean Voyager, Cold Water Quest,
River Scout, and Dolphin Tales where the animals are displayed.
7. Churaumi Aquarium
Location: Motobu, Japan
The Churaumi Aquarium is considered the best aquarium in Japan. This
was the largest aquarium in the world before the Georgia Aquarium took
its place when it was constructed in 2005. It was opened in 2002 and was
the first aquarium to succeed in raising and breeding manta alfredo which
is one of the most abundant species of ray. It has 77 exhibition tanks with
a total water volume of 2.64 million gallons which is equivalent to 10
million litres. The main tank displays two whale sharks, manta rays and a
variety of other fish species. The aquarium also has an area dedicated to
tiger sharks and bull sharks.
6. Dubai Mall Aquarium (2,64 million gallons)
Location: Dubai, UAE
This Aquarium is found inside the Dubai Mall which is the largest Mall in
the world. The Dubai Aquarium has a total water volume of 2.64 million-
gallons which is equivalent to 10 million litres. The fish tank has more
than 33,000 aquatic animals including 300 sharks and rays. This
Aquarium has the most extensive collection of Sand Tiger sharks in the
world. The Dubai aquarium earned the Guinness World Record for the
world’s “Largest Acrylic Panel”. The panel measures 8.3 by 32.88 meter
(27 by 108 feet) and is 75 centimeters (30 inches) thick.
5. L’Oceanografic (1,85 million gallons)
Location: Valencia, Spain
Oceanographic has a total water volume of 11 million gallons which is
equivalent to of 42 million litres. This aquarium is the biggest aquarium in
Europe. It is made up of nine elegant underwater towers that house more
than 45,000 marine animals from over 500 different species. It has a 35-
meter underwater tunnel through which one can observe the different
species available
4. uShaka Marine World (about 1 million gallons)
Location: Durban, South Africa
The uShaka Marine World is the largest aquarium in Africa. This
aquarium boasts of 32 tanks that have a total water volume of 4.6 million
gallons which is equivalent to 17.5 million litres of water. The sea
creatures found in the aquarium range from small seahorses to sharks
and dolphins. The aquarium contains a number of restaurants and cafes
like “The Cargo Hold” restaurant which is most notable of these
restaurants.
3. Cube Oceanarium,
Location: Chengdu, China
This aquarium was opened in 2015 and located inside the Seaside City
Shopping Mall. It houses the biggest jellyfish in the world and about
33,000 ocean creatures. The main tank holds over 10 million litres of
water and hosts two small whale sharks alongside other different fish
species. The Cube Oceanarium also holds the Guinness World Records
for the world’s largest acrylic window and the world’s largest aquarium
window which is 39.65 m wide and 8.3 m tall.
2. Shanghai Ocean Aquarium (about 1 million gallons)
Location: Shanghai, China
The Shanghai Ocean Aquarium is one of the largest aquariums in Asia.
The aquarium has four subsea tunnels with an overall length of 155
meters.It is composed of exhibition zones like China, South
America, Australia, Africa, Southeast Asia that include more than 300
types and 15,000 water creatures and rare fish. The aquarium has an
underwater tunnel which is the longest in the world.

Location: Istanbul, Turkey
The TurkuaZoo was opened in the year 2009 and is considered the
largest aquarium in Europe. It is also the first public aquarium
in Turkey. The aquarium contains a rain forest, flooded forest, and
tropical seas zones. It has about 25,000 sea creatures including a variety
of rays, sharks and sea horses. It has 29 different exhibitions that display
the various marine species like tiger sharks, groupers, giant stingrays,
piranhas, and octopus. The aquarium also has an 80-meter long
underwater tunnel.
