⇒ Calculating springs according to DIN EN 13906-2

Procedure

a) Definition of Inner diameter (D1), outer diameter (D2),

width (B), total gap (SS), spring diameter (D),
inner diameter of the chamber (ID),
spring thickness (d) and length of the spring (L0)

b) Calculation of the pressure against the piston rod (pRi)

G d4 sNG
FNG = = Force of the spring in the groove
8 D3 n
n = Number of twists = L0/d
sNG = Elongation of the spring in the groove = LNG – L0
LNG = Length of the groove = (D2-D)  π
ARi = Inner area of the sealing ring = ((D1 π) – SS)  B

G d5 ((D2-D)  π – L0)
Pressure pRi = FNG/ARi =

τ 0 π d3
Internal pre-force F0 =

τ0 = internal shear stress = (0,075 – 0,00375  D/d)  Rm

d) Calculation of the maximum force F1

Further procedure

e) Calculation of static and dynamic shear stress (τ1 and τk1)

8 D F1 G d2 ((ID-D)  π – L0)
τ1 = = + τ0 τ1k = τ1  k
π d3 π D2 L0

w =twist relation = D/d

G d2 ((ID-D)  π – L0) 4w – 1 0,615

τk1 = + τ0  + w
π D2 L0 4w – 4

f) Calculation of the security S

0,8 τzul τzul = Allowable shear stress = 0,45 Rm
