CREATING ALERTS
The new alerts experience on the Bloomberg Professional® service makes it easier than ever to create
the alerts you need using the Alerts Manager (ALRT <GO>).

USING ALERTS MANAGER

The Alerts Manager (ALRT <GO>) enables you to create
and configure Personal and Suggested Alerts.
Personal Alerts are based on criteria you select yourself
and fall into four categories:
• Market e.g. significant price changes, high-trade volumes,
corporate actions.
• News e.g. bonds, tech sector, Warren Buffett.
SETTING UP A MARKET ALERT
• Economic e.g. initial jobless claims, retail sales reports.
• Time e.g. reminder to send a report to a portfolio manager,
a weekly sales call.
Suggested Alerts are customized alerts for market and price
events, economic releases, and news stories based on areas
of the market you may be interested in. The alerts are based
on readership as well as securities in your favorites lists,
command-line usage and API usage. To control the Suggested
Alerts you see, update your alert profile in ALRT <GO>.

To create a market alert:

• Choose a security 1 or security list 2 , including monitors,
portfolios and indices.
• Create a condition 3 to trigger the alert, e.g. if the absolute
price change is greater than 5%, etc. To explore a list of
available conditions, click the examples link 4 to see more
categorized alerts.
• Customize the alert delivery method 5 .
— Alert Catcher – delivery is enabled by default.
— Bring Catcher to Front – gain instant access to the
Alert Catcher as soon as the alert arrives.
— Show a Pop-up Window – display each alert in a
stand-alone popup window.
— Play an Audio Alert – when popups are selected,
new alerts are signalled with an audible alert.
— Send Me a Message – Choose to receive the alert in
your inbox via MSG or MSGN <GO>.

To create an economic alert:

• Enter keywords to search for a release 6 (e.g., GDP), or click
“Full Release List” 7 to see all available releases. Note: you can
enter multiple alerts.
• Choose when you want to receive the alert 8 . You
can also choose “On Surprise at or Exceeding”, and “
In Advance of Release”
• Customize the alert delivery method 9 .

To create a news alert:

• Enter a keyword, topic, or security as the basis for
your alert 10 .
• Choose the sources you wish to receive news from,
including 11 :
— Bloomberg & Editorially Suggested
— Bloomberg Only
— Other – Allows you to specify the exact source you’re
interested in, including newswires, major publications,
research and social media.
The Preview section 12 displays a snapshot of the stories the
alert will trigger, and the Expected Flow count estimates the
number of stories it generates per day.
• Customize the alert delivery method 13 . In addition to
standard popups, messages, and audio alerts, news stories
can be displayed via the following methods: 14
— Open in Launchpad – view as a real-time monitor
of scrolling news headlines in a dedicated
Launchpad component.
— Set as Blue Scrolling News Panel – view in the scrolling
news feed at the bottom of your first Bloomberg screen.
You’re Ready To Go
You don’t have to wait to set up Personal Alerts in order
to start using Alert Catcher. The new alerts experience
automatically provides Suggested Alerts based on your areas
of interest. Start using Alert Catcher now at BLRT <GO>.
