U.S. sanctions on Iran

take force; major oil
importers are spared
By Matthew Lee
THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

WASHINGTON — The Trump administration’s tough new

sanctions on Iran took effect on Monday but eight major
importers of Iranian oil were spared from immediate penal-
ties.
The sanctions target Iran’s energy, financial and ship-
ping sectors and are aimed at crippling the country’s econ-
omy following President Donald Trump’s withdrawal from
the 2015 nuclear deal. The measures restore all the U.S.
sanctions that had been lifted under the accord that gave
Iran billions of dollars in sanctions relief in exchange for
curbs on its nuclear program.
The sanctions freeze any assets that those targeted have
in U.S. jurisdictions and bar Americans from doing busi-
ness with them.
They will also affect non-Iranian companies that deal
with sanctioned Iranian firms and officials.

Calling For Volunteers For the

Juhsd Citizens' Bond oVersight Committee

With the continued implementation of Measure J passed in 2014 and the passage of Measure J
in 2018, the District is soliciting volunteers from the community to serve on the Citizens' Bond
Oversight Committee. Membership is prescribed by the guidelines of the voter approved Propo-
sition 39 and includes representatives from several important constituencies. We will need at
least seven members including:

o One member “active in a business organization”

o One member “active in a senior citizen organization”
o One member “active in a bona fide taxpayers' organization
o One member shall be a parent or guardian of an enrolled child.

To qualify for membership, a person must be at least 18 years of age and reside within the geo-
graphic boundary of the Jefferson Union High School District, which covers Pacifica, Daly City,
Colma, and Brisbane. Any District employee, official of the District or any vendor, contractor or
consultant of the District may not be considered for membership.

Duties include reviewing expenditures of bond monies for compliance with the law, issuing an an-
nual report and informing the community of the progress and appropriateness of the bond expen-
ditures.

The committee must convene at least annually but may meet more often as defined by the Com-
mittee. Committee membership terms will be for two years.

If you have a desire to serve and are available to participate on the Citizens' Bond Oversight
Committee for the Jefferson Union High School District, please notify the school district in writing
by December 7, 2018. Please include a brief letter of interest with your name, address, phone
number and e-mail address, noting the constituency you represent and any particular talents you
might bring to this committee. Please send this letter of interest to:
