Discussion #1 (Plagiarism)

Plagiarism plays a large part in the educational field. The internet has made it possible for
students to cheat through school and now teachers are able to easily identify it. What is the
definition of plagiarism? Plagiarism is "when a writer deliberately uses someone else language,
ideas, or other original (not common knowledge material with others acknowledging it's source.n
This definition applies to texts published in print or online, to manuscripts, and to works of other
student writers" (Council of writing program admins).I got this definition from a very wise
teacher I had for an AP class in high school. I learned very quickly how to cite every source and
even cite a source in a source. Society relies on citing sources in many fields such as medical ,
criminal justice, journalism, and more. Many times has journalist been scandalized for not citing
a source or lying in a column. The New York Times has been caught in many scandals. There is
a trust journalist must sustain and it's nearly impossible. " One out of three students admit to
plagiarism" according to plagiarism.org. Teachers are able to use sites that check papers for
plagiarism and they catch students in it. I believe it is harder to plagiarize a paper that to just
write it yourself.

1. Briann Seagraves-Interesting! I never thought students did it because they felt less. I
always thought It was because they forgot, did not feel like doing it it, or just bother to
think. I find your insight enlightening. I also appreciate that you inputted personal touch
and let the reader know that you know what it's like.

2. Katlyn Mothersell-I agree, people should know their own creative mind over others.
Rather they should use others to help open up their own muscles in their brain they are
not using. Plagiarism allows people to halfway use that part of their brain but not truly.
This cuts them short later in life and services as a consequence when they are not caught.

3. Erika Ervine-People don't understand often that they are plagiarizing and until a teacher
explained it to me i did not understand it. I knew I was told it was wrong but never how
to fix it. I feel that is a specially important thing for teachers to teach their students early
on. It can surprise people what they will do when stressed and exhausted.
