Chapter 1 Brief Introduction

This chapter will introduce the GINTEC G9 High accuracy GNSS receiver, the
interface, advantages and the basic operations. After reading this chapter you will
know the basic operation.

1.1 Introduction

GINTEC G9 is a very important product of GINTEC, it adopts world advanced level

module to make sure the high quality and best stability. Use Trimble BD970 mainboard,
G9 can work in complex environment stably and get a high accuracy solution. Use
Trimble XDL micro Radio module, it can transmit and receive UHF signal. XDL radio
contain many different radio protocol, so G9 can work together with other brands.
When it’s used as a base station, the transmit power has low and high two choices.
Low power is 1 watt, high power is 2 watt. And its work frequency is from 403Hz to
473Hz. Use ZTE 3G module, G9 can use 3G SIM card and the performance is very good.
According to actual stations, in some country they all use CORS reference station.
So they don’t use radio mode. GINTEC G9 also can work normally with internal radio
module.

1.2 G9 Mainframe

The mainframe of G9 is a flat cylindrical, 94mm in height, 188mm in diameter. The

front side is a control panel, 2 functional buttons and some indicators.

Chapter 2 Basic Operation of G9

In chapter 1, we had introduced the mainframe and the indicators. But it doesn’t
say how to use. In this chapter, it will introduce the basic operation of GINTEC G9. And
you will know more detailed information from this chapter.

2.1 Change work mode and datalink

No matter what brand of RTK you use, they all have 3 work mode base, rover and
static. When you select a work mode, it still has different datalink should selected. But
how to change the work mode and datalink?

2.1.1 Change work mode

For G9, there are 3 ways to change the work mode, via controller software, via PC
software and change directly. Depends on the controller software you use, the way to
change work mode is different, it depends on what’s software you use, SurvCE,
FieldGenius or others. How to use the PC software to change work mode? We have an
assistant software. We will introduce it in next chapter.
Here it will introduce how to change the work mode directly via control panel.
(1) Base mode
Press power button and function button at the same time until all of the led flash
at the same time. Then press Function to change the work mode, when the Base
indicator is on, press Power key to confirm base station.

4
G9
(2) Rover Mode
Press power button and function button at the same time until all of the led flash
at the same time. Then press Function to change the work mode, when the Rover
indicator is on, press Power key to confirm Rover station.

(3) Static Mode

Press power button and function button at the same time until all of the led flash
at the same time. Then press Function to change the work mode, when the Static
indicator is on, press Power key to confirm Static station.

2.1.2 Change datalink

After confirm the work mode, next step is change data link. It’s also like modifying
work mode, you also can change the datalink via Control software, via PC assistant
software and change via control panel directly. Here we still just introduce how to
change datalink via control panel directly.
(1) Internal radio
After you confirming the work mode, then keep press Function button for about

5
G9
6 seconds until the datalink indicator blink. Then press Function(Not keep pressing) to
change datalink. When the UHF indicator is green, then press power button to
configure UHF datalink.
Base mode and rover mode all can configure with internal radio datalink. When
the indicator blinks, if receiver is base mode, it means transmit radio signals, if receiver
is rover mode, it means receive radio signals.

(2) Network datalink

After you confirming the work mode, then keep press Function button for about
6 seconds until the datalink indicator blink. Then press Function button (Not keep
pressing) to change datalink. When the Network indicator is green, then press power
button to configure Network datalink.
Usually only rover mode can configure with Network datalink, when the indicator
blinks, it means the receiver is receiving the net signals from Reference Station.

(3) External datalink

After you confirming the work mode, then keep press Function button for about
6 seconds until the datalink indicator blink. Then press Function button (Not keep
pressing) to change datalink. When the Bluetooth indicator is green, then press power

rover mode, then this datalink means you can use your controller connect to reference
station.

2.2 Configure Base Station

Base station shall be set up in the broad view, unobscured and higher places, avoid
the vicinity of the high voltage power transmission equipment and the transmitting
and receiving antennas of radio communication equipment, the shade of trees, and
the sides of water, all of which will produce different degrees of impact on the GPS
signal reception and emission of radio signals.
The steps for the installation of base are shown in the following pictures and
sheets.

7
G9
Step Description

1 Put a tripod on a location with known coordinates or unknown coordinates.

2 Mount the tribrach on the tripod.

3 Screw the receiver to tribrach.

4 Attach the transmitting radio antenna into the port “UHF”

Measure the height of the receiver. The detailed information please refer to "II.5 How
5
to measure the antenna height"

6 Power on the receiver and select the base working mode.

7 Set base parameters via controller and software. Then start base station

2.3 Configure Rover Station

The steps for the installation of rover are shown in the following pictures and

8
G9

2.3 Antenna Height measuring (Base and Static)

When you use the receiver as static mode, there is a very important parameter
should be configured---Antenna Height, this is also very important for base station.
Antenna height is actually the vertical height of the phase center to ground
measurement point. But there are differences between different measure methods.
You can measure from the ground to the up of the mainframe rubber ring, in this
situation, you should select “Slant height to the measuring line”. In the standard
configuration, it has an altimetry piece, so you also can measure from the ground
(known point) to altimetry piece. In this situation you should select “Height to
altimetry piece”.

2.4 Self Checking

If the indicators are abnormal or the receiver can’t work normally, for example the
Bluetooth can’t be connected, the radio mode can’t work, it can’t connect to the CORS.
Then you can use the self-check function, to detective the receiver. It will check
internal radio module, GPRS module and Bluetooth module. If the self-checking can’t
pass, then the indicator will be red. For example, when you do the self-check, GPRS
and Bluetooth indicators are green, but the radio indicator is red. It means internal
radio module has question.
Self-check step as follow. Power on the receiver first. Then keep press power key,
the receiver will power off, but don’t release, just keep. The receiver will power on
again, then it start to do self-check. You can release the button.

12
G9

4.2 Information

After you click “OK”, wait for some seconds, then the receiver will connect to the
software. It will show “Information” directly.

The information contains “Device, Antenna, GPS, Radio, Network, Bluetooth and
work mode” In different part you can see detailed information. So when you want to
check detailed configuration, just look over this.

4.3 Setting

In this part you can change work mode and datalink, also NEMA output. This part
is very important, so we will introduce this part in detail.

13
G9

4.3.1 Change work mode

You can change work mode between static, base and rover here.
(a) Static Mode
In the software you can see “Static and Dynamic” under setting. Select “Static”
then you will see the static parameters.
You can input CutAngle, PDOP Threshold, PointName and Antenna Height. Of
course you also can select the Time Interval. You also can see “Automatic Record”. If
you select this, then when you power on the receiver and change the work mode to
Static, the receiver can record static data automatic. But after you save those
parameters, you should restart to apply.

In the bottom of the software, you can see “Satellite system” and “Save”. Click
“Satellites System”, it will show the opinion box. Usually we use “GPS, GLONASS and
BEIDOU” together. Click “Save” then all of these configurations will be applied.

14
G9

(b) Base Mode

Please select “Dynamic” in “Working Mode” then you will see “Base” and “Rover”
in Dynamic Mode, select Base then you can configure the basic parameters of base
station.

15
G9
After you select “Base” then you can see “Base Setting” in the left of Dynamic
Mode.

There are two start mode Start by unknown point or Start by known point.
(1) If you want to start the base on an unknown point. Then you should select
“Start by Single Position”. Within this choice, there are just 4 opinion parameters that
you can change. Input Site name, input delay time and input PDOP. There are
“Automatic Startup” selection, if you select it, then base station will transmit
automatic after powering on.

16
G9
(2) If you want to start base on known point. Then you should select “Start by
Specify Position” The 4 opinion parameters are same with “Start by Single Position”,
Site Name, Delay, PDOP and automatic startup.

But it also has little difference. Because this time we start base station on known
point, so we should input the coordinate of this point. Before you input, there are two
modes, Geodetic Coordinate BLH and Spatial Coordinate XYZ.

We introduce “Geodetic Coordinate BLH”, if you select this, then you should input
“Longitude, Latitude and Height”. It also has 3 different format to use----decimal
degrees, DD:MMSS, DD:MM:SS. Select according on your coordinate.

17
G9

But if you just has Spatial Coordinate, then you should input X, Y and Z. Select
“Spatial coordinate XYZ”, then input. After all of this, click OK.

That’s the configuration of “Base Setting”. Beside those, it still have 3 parameters
you can configure directly. It shows in follow picture.
Differential Type: The differential signal type that the base transmits. It contains DGPS,
18
G9
CMR, CMR PLUS, RTCM2, RTCM3, SCMRX and RTCM32. The default choice is RTCM32,
because RTCM32 contains BeiDou signal.
Elevation: Input as you want
Record Raw Data: If you select this, when the base station transmits differential signals,
at the same time, it also record the static data.
Time Interval: After you selecting “Record Raw Data”, you can configure the time
interval for static data.

That’s all of the configurations of base mode.

(c) Rover Mode

Please select “Dynamic” in “Working Mode” then you will see “Base” and “Rover”
in Dynamic Mode, select Rover then you can configure the basic parameters of Rover
station.

19
G9
Different from base station, Rover just has 3 parameters to configure. It shows as
follow picture.
Differential Type: It has this parameter here, but actually the different can’t effect
rover station. Because the different type of rover depends on CORS and Base station.
If the CORS and Base station send RTCM32 signal, then rover receive RTCM32, but if
they send RTCM3, then Rover receive RTCM3.
Elevation: Input as you want.
Record Raw Data: If you select this, when you use Rover collect point, it also
record static data at same time.
Time Interval: After you selecting “Record Raw Data”, you can configure the time
interval for static data.

4.3.2 Change Data link

There are 5 kinds of datalink totally, they are “UHF, External, Network, Bluetooth,
Network and External”. And as we know, static mode doesn’t have a datalink just base
mode and rover mode has datalink. Base station can use UHF, External, Network,
Network and External, totally 4 kinds of datalink. Rover station can use UHF, Network,
Bluetooth, External, also totally 4 kinds of datalink.
20
G9
(1) UHF Datalink
Base and Rover station all can use UHF, it means internal radio. After you selecting
UHF, it will has a “Setting” menu besides the datalink. Click “Setting”, then come to
configure UHF parameters.

In this interface, there are many parameters you can change. Usually, you just
need modify Radio Channel, Radio Frequency, and Protocol. Other parameters are
default. Our radio module has 8 channels, the default frequency is from 441 to 448,
default protocol is TrimTalk450s. After configuration, click “OK” to exit.

(2) External Datalink

Base and Rover station all can use “External” datalink. It means connect to an

21
G9
external radio to receiver. There is also a “Setting” menu. Click it to set. But in External
datalink, it just has one parameter you should set-----The baud to the external radio.
Different external radio has different baud. The external radio from our company have
same baud----38400.

(3) Network Datalink

Base and Rover station all can use Network datalink. When receiver is base station,
it means base transmit the signal to CORS services, then if rover station connect to this
CORS, they will find a mounpoint named as the base’s serial number.
Select Network datalink, it also has a setting menu, click to edit. Usually we use
“Ntrip” function, you can set APN, Ntrip Setting and GGA upload. There are also CSD,
PPP and Custom mode to select.

22
G9
(4) Bluetooth Datalink (Data Collector Internet)
This datalink just can be used in Rover station, it means use controller connect to
internet. When you select this, there is no parameters to set, just click save to apply.

(5) Network and External Datalink

This datalink can only be used in base station. It means base station transmit radio
signals via external radio. At the same time, base station also transmit Network signals
via internet.
It also has setting menu. But when you click to come, you can find you just can
edit External baud, because the network parameters should be configured in Network
datalink.

23
G9

4.3 Export Data

Export data is also a very important parts of RTK, usually we connect the receiver
to PC via USB cable, then we can copy data from receiver, just like copy data from flash
driver to PC. Gintec G9 also have this function. But there is still another way for G9----
Use this Assistant Software
Connect G9 to PC then open this software. When you click “Export Data” you will
see the interface. You can see all of the static data, File name, Antenna Height, Size,
Start time, End time and data type.

(1) Data download

Select the data you need, then click download. You can download data and save
to the path you want. If you want to download all, click “Select all”.

Sometimes we want to rename the data and also change some information. Then
before you download, please select the data you want to edit, click “Set File
24
G9
Information” to edit. Here you can rename the point and also input the antenna height,
also the measure mode.

(2) Convert to .Rinex format

In some case, the “.Rinex” format data is necessary, but our static data is “.dat”
format. We have another convert software to help you convert “.dat” format data to
“.Rinex” format. But with Assistant software, you can download “.Rinex” data directly.
Select the data you want to download, then check on the “Rinex Format. At last
click download. This time the data you download is .Rinex format.

(3) Delete data

Use Assistant Software, you also can delete data directly. Before downloading,
select “Delete Source”, then click “Download” to download. This time when the data
is downloaded, the source data will be deleted.
25
G9

4.4 Serial Port Forwarding

This part is used very little. Because this part is used for debug. And this function
need a special cable. Use this function, we can connect to OEM module, UHF module
Bluetooth module and Network module, then use other software to configure.

26
G9

4.5 Register

There are two ways to register G9 receiver, via controller and via this Assistant
software.

4.5.1 Register via Controller
