A Stand for Birth Control

To give birth when one wants or let nature take its course?

The use of birth control has always been an issue. In the Philippines, it is considered

immoral if people engage in any sexual activity before marriage, and more so opt to make use of

artificial birth control methods. Because of this and other factors, the use of birth control was

deemed a taboo.

Having babies is a wonderful thing embraced by many people.

Having an unplanned one is not so nice.

First, unwanted children.

In the Philippines, the rate of unwanted children is very high – almost 36%.

Second, HIV

From 2015 to 2016, the number of Filipinos turning out HIV-positive was increased - by

18%.

Third, overpopulation

One of country’s main problems. Our needs are vast — education, health care, and better

sanitation to name a few.

But is population growth really the root cause of these problems and needs?

Or is there an underlying cause to all of these?

Think again.

Birth control

It functions to prevent conception and pregnancy.

There are two kinds:

First, natural methods like abstinence, the calendar method wherein the ovulation cycle of

a woman is monitored, and the withdrawal method.

Second, artificial methods ranging from barrier types like condoms, diaphragms and IUD’s

to hormonal contraceptives and surgical sterilization methods.

What would its general practice do for the society?

This is the question that all of us should carefully consider.

Not only should we consider society as it is today but the society of the future state, and

the effects of the practice of birth control in bringing about a cleaner and better race.

Let us begin with the fact that number one, some methods require little to no work at all.

An IUD can stay in place for five to ten years. It would be convenient for people to properly

prepare themselves in case they are planning to have sex without the worry of conceiving.

Number two, helps women take better control of their futures

To plan and space their pregnancies to avoid health problems and death from child bearing,

and the dilemma of abortion which leads to better education,

more job opportunities,

and economic security.

Number three, decrease of family size

More parental time and resources can be invested in each child and help reduce social

problems like juvenile delinquency.

Number four, prevention of disease transmission

A female or male condom provides dual protection against the transmission of STI’s

including HIV.

Lastly, prevention of mental health problems

Unintended pregnancies double the risk of having depression, as the woman suffers from

a lot of stress.

Who would want an overpopulated country?

Why do you think many people start to migrate to other countries?

It’s because our population is increasing in an alarming rate.

One of the best ways to avoid this situation from worsening?

Birth control

It is the key in slowing population growth and the resulting negative impacts on the

economy, and environment.

Birth control

It benefits society as a whole in terms of fewer health disparities for disadvantaged

populations,

reduced child poverty

and lower public spending.

However, there might be consequences.

What is the stand of the Catholic Church?

In the belief of the Catholic ministry, an artificial contraceptive hinders the creation of life.

It is also subject to abuse and misuse.

People might make use of these methods for their selfish pleasures. This creates a situation

whereby sexual activity becomes less meaningful and more common.

There are adverse side effects that can cause health risks and complications.

While these principle may hold truth, we must remember how conceiving unwanted

children can affect the lives of those who are currently living.

How about the mother who is suffering nine months of pain,

The father who is constantly sacrificing for his family

The living children who will be affected as the family resources divide further?

Just think about the lives of many people that will suffer.

So why deprive people of their right to decide?

We have to let people know that it is okay.

That it is not something they should not have second thoughts on using.

It would be better to raise up a family according to one’s capability only- according to

one’s own choice.

Birth control

It is the keynote to a new social awakening

An awakening of the parent to its responsibility towards its offspring

An awakening of individuals towards the consequences of their acts.

Would society want any greater mortality?

Would society want to add more burden to the future generation?

Or would you want to become something better than yourselves today?

We firmly stand to use contraceptives; it is not wise to gamble with your children’s future,

with our future.
