I am applying for the IELTS Prize to fund my study in MPhil Technology Policy at the

University of Cambridge. This course, aligning with my personal interests and career goals,
would allow me to enrich my personal development and enable me to contribute to my
country’s economic advancement.

I decided to pursue the MPhil in Technology Policy as the programme assists me in preparing
myself with the skills necessary for my career switch to the public sector as a policy-maker.
A degree in MPhil in Technology Policy, with core courses on economic foundations and
focus on how government and technology impact the market systems, would prepare me for
my management career in the technology-related field. Secondly, I am motivated to become a
leading expert in technology policy and contribute to my country’s effort to remain
competitive. As an aspiring policy-maker and an expert in technological application in
manufacturing sector, I am curious about how technologies and associated policies impact the
growth of different industries. Thirdly, my master study would be a chance to expand my
professional and social network. The diverse environment at Cambridge would allow me to
meet with future leaders who would be helpful in my future career as a policy-maker.

Apart from the academic and profession progression, the master study in the UK would
enrich my humble experiences and contribute to my well-rounded development. Spending
one year in the UK enables me to meet people from cultural and social backgrounds who
would challenge my point of view. I am interested in learning how different people’s
upbringing affects their way of thinking and, from there, developing empathy toward others.
Furthermore, exposing myself to a totally different social setting would challenge me to step
out of my comfort zone and adapt to the new life in the Western culture. The daily navigation
to adjust myself into the new life in the UK would strengthen me as a person and assist me in
preparing myself to become a global citizen.

My study in the UK would not only enrich my personal development but also equip me with
the necessary skills to contribute to the socio-economic progress of my country. The MPhil in
Technology Policy would prepare me for my future career in the public sector by providing
me with the necessary knowledge on technology management, policy design and
government-business relations. With these skills, I would be able to conceive and execute
sound R&D and investment decisions that would put Vietnam in the forefront of the
technological advancement. This would create more better-paid jobs for the Vietnamese
people.

In conclusion, spending one year in the UK to study MPhil Technology Policy would present
to me the stepping stone to achieve my goals in my profession and personal development.
Succeeding in my career would put me in the position to contribute to Vietnam’s national
progress and impact others’ life.
