IMPROVING ABILITY IN WRITING PROCEDURE TEXT

THROUGH
PICTURES AT THE 11th GRADE STUDENTS OF SMA
BINA NEGARA 1-BALEENDAH
Background

This is the background that has motivated the writing of classroom action research on
Improving ability in writing procedure text through pictures to the 11th grade of senior high
school.It covers student's lack of vocabulary,need of grammar,difficulties of expressing ideas
and the organize the sentence. Besides that they must be able to arrange their writing into cohesive
and coherent paragraphs and texts of writing aspect such as construct the sentence, to use
punctuation and spelling well.

1.1 Research Question


This research is guided the question as follows:
Can picture improve ability in writing procedure at the 11th grade ?

1.2 Research Purpose


The research is aimed investigating the effectiveness of pictures on writing procedure text.

1.3 Research Method


Action Research
This research employs a classroom action research (CAR).Classroom action research is
defined by Kemmis and McTaggart (1988, 5) “Action research is a form of collective self-
reflective enquiry undertaken by participants in social situations in order to improve the
rationality and justice of their own social or educational practices, as well as their
understanding of these practices and the situations in which these practices are carried out.
To find the data, the writer used the instrument test namely written test
in the form of pre-test and post test. It is used to find out whether or not the
using of pictures improve the students’ ability in writing procedure text.

1.4 Research Design


An outlined by the classroom action research (CAR) method, the research is designed to
go according to cycles. It is planned to finish in three cycles where in each cycle there will be
several meetings, around 3 to 4 meetings;thus it is projected to complete in meeting in
total. With each week completed two meetings, so the program will required 4 weeks to
end.

As noted above the cycle consist of plan, act and observe and reflect. In plan the setting
will include making sure of the clarity of steps, availability of materials, and provision of media.
Following this stage that is in act and observe the researcher will manage the distribution,
running the classroom activities, observing the students learning and writing journal.
In Reflection follows action and observation.In this process, the researcher will carry out
transcribing of audio visual record,analyzing the themes emerging from the activities and
identifying potentials for the next activities to be considered in the next cycle.
